Would you like to work at the Palomar Mountain Post Office? Apply Now!!! The opening was posted today and will be up for 7 days. The link does say you are applying for Pauma Valley but that link is apparently for the job on Palomar Mountain. Diana would really like to have it filled by someone who lives up here. Did you know there is a wonderful camp on Palomar Mountain? Kids can attend week-long Science Camp, Base Camp, Adventure Camp and the very favorite for our grandaughters has been Horse Camp. Well, our four Treasures are here this week and our grandaughter, Sunshine, is enjoying her third year of Horse Camp. It is amazing to see what they learn in one week with the horses.

The last day is a ShowDeo and YOU are invited! The ShowDeo is this Friday, August 5th and starts promptly at 3:30 at the arena at the Palomar Christain Conference Center. Like to carpool? Meet here at our house on State Park Road at 2:45 and we can ride down together. Or here are some easy directions:

Take State Park Road, to the State Park Kiosk. Keep going. Drive down into the park and follow the signs to the Camp. When you get into the camp and see a parking area on your left, park and walk out to the left to the Arena.

Hope some of you can join us and maybe next year your kids or grandkids can get in on the fun, right here on Palomar Mountain!

Come on out to hear the Smith Mountain Boys; Dutch Bergman and Bruce Druliner on their guitars and Steve Barry humming along as their sound man. Together they have been making music for nearly half a century! Can that be?!?! This coming Saturday will sure be fun at Lake Henshaw Cafe!

The restaurant is having their full menu available. Oh my, great food! Let’s pack out Lake Henshaw!

We have all appreciated his kindness, professionalism and his way of treating people like he would like to be treated. Just had a nice call from the postmaster Diana, at the Pauma Office. She has a clerk bringing the mail up each weekday. The mail will be in your boxes. When you have a package, a key is placed in your box to open the lockers. When you retrieve your package, please just leave the key in the lock of the locker. Please get your packages as soon as possible so it will keep the lockers available.

If you have a registered letter, a form will be placed in your box to sign. The next day the letter will be in your box.

Looking for a great job? Diana would love to have this position filled with someone who lives on Palomar.

She said to pass on the info that they are really working to have the window open by the end of the month. They would love to be able to fill the position with someone from Palomar. She explained that she usually has three clerks in Pauma and only has one. So, they are looking for applicants now. That could be a great job just 30 minutes down the grade. Their goal in Pauma is to have enough clerks to have the Palomar window open from 1:30 to 4:00 by the end of August.

The job needs to be open to the public for 45 days, after such time we should have our little post office staffed full time again.

Lazy H is having some staffing situations so we’ll have to meet up there another time. No music this Thursday night…

Did you know Mayolo is retireing? Our very friendly and helpful Post Master for one of the smallest post offices in the United States is leaving us! Mayolo has always been a bright spot in our day on Palomar. Getting the mail has been a social event on this little mountain. Mail is up by about 11 am. Often our visits to pick up the mail are planned about that time. We will miss Mayolo’s smiling face at the window!

There is a card for Mayolo inside the General Store. If you haven’t already signed it, your note and signature would be nice to add.

You are invited to a Retirement luncheon this Thursday honoring his years of service to this community. Mike Pique and Jeannie ordered a Jilbertos “party special” with tacos, enchiladas, pollo asado and quesadillas (vegetarian), rice, beans, chips and salsa. Mike picked up paper goods, Katie is bringing a cake and napkins and we’ll have a big bowl of watermelon for all. If you would like to bring something to share, that would be welcomed.

You might want to pop in the General Store and pick up something cold to drink. Mike is accepting donations toward the lunch. Thank you.

I saw Lee Baker hosing off the patio in front of Mother’s Kitchen today and it will be set up with tables and chairs. Come help set up at noon on Thursday and we’ll all celebrate Mayolo when he gets his lunch break at 12:30.

What is going to happen to our little Post Office? I noticed it has been closed much of the last week. So, I called Pauma Valley PO several times and it rolled to a fax machine. The nice gal at the Valley Center PO gave me an update for you. She said the gal in Pauma is often there by herself and so busy it is hard to answer the phone. The VC gal is short-handed, too, but sends down an extra staff person when she can. Right now the mail will be delivered to Palomar and put in boxes during the week but they don’t have the staffing to have the window open. Windows are open at the Post Offices off the mountain.
