What a fun photo shoot day!

Fancy photography with a drone was on the list for a few properties. I knew one of our mountain neighbors, Danny Cruz, flew drones and reached out to him. Well, Danny said his good friend Levi Dixon is the BEST. So, I staged all, ran around before he arrived to have the lights on, drapes open and everything as good as it was going to get. We took off and it was ‘lights, cameras and lots of action’. He shot five different properties in ten hours. Yes, we ate lunch and dinner on the run! I counted eight sets of stairs we ran up and down many times to get the perfect lighting and just the right angles. He offered to drive so it was my first time in a Tesla Model 3 – so much fun.

Levi pulled out a couple different drones at Round House Ranch. This fancy drone flew out through the forest for a close-up of the Observatory view and caught the attention of a few hawks. One swooped in, thinking it was a noisy option for lunch. Since Mr. Drone wasn’t the least bit tasty, the hawk went on his way. I finally turned on my camera and caught the return flight, thankful the drone was doing just fine. The hawk? We’re guessing he found an even better option for lunch.

Please stay tuned. Three of these properties have been off the market for a month or so but will be back up, better than ever in the next couple days.

Rain and a Rainbow

Beautiful pic from Mike Pique who was treated to a rainbow this afternoon on East Grade Road. We had the rain up on State Park Road. This video for you was 36 seconds but the rain? Much longer! Think it lasted maybe even two minutes. Wish I could post this as a scratch and sniff:

Post Office Update

The past few times I’ve been in the post office, Yasmira is the smiling face working hard behind the window. She lives in Escondido and normally works out of the Pauma office. She comes up when she is assigned to Palomar. The goal is to arrive about 1:30 and stay until 4:30. However, the Pauma and Valley Center Post Offices are both short-handed so they are doing the best they can. Sometimes they are only able to put the mail up but not have the window open because they are needed back in Pauma.

Yasmira said when she is working she tries to put as many packages as possible in the available lockers. However, some of the other staff might not, as it is much quicker to use the yellow cards and they sometimes need to get back down the mountain as soon as they can.

If you are needing the window open, you might call the mountain post office first to see if someone is there. 760-742-3044

They are hoping that they have applicants to fill available job openings real soon for Palomar, Pauma and Valley Center Post Offices.

Apply on line, more job info here.

Storm on Palomar

Isn’t this an awesome photo? Thank you to Mike Pique! He took this pic off his deck a few days ago. Out on the East Grade, he was looking southeast when the storm passed by, just missing his property. Hooray for all the rain that part of the mountain was treated to!

Need grading, excavating, road work?

Such a beautiful view today looking out to 8+ acres up out that ridge that are coming up for sale. You can see a bit of a clearing there where Robert Ruiz opened up the brush. The road up to the land had deep ruts so he first graded and worked the erosion that has happened over the years. I went over and checked out his work today and was so impressed. I’d forgotten to ask him to add some water bars and remembered only when I saw he’d installed a few. (Water bars are one of my favorite things!)

You can reach Robert Ruiz on his cell at 760-212-8998. He is often on the mountain so can meet up with you to check out a job.

Nature and Astrophotography from Tom Bartol

It was so interesting to host recent guests at StarLoft Vacation Rental. Tom and Wendy let me know they would be bringing his 300 pound equipment used for exploring the stars and his photography. They were initially concerned because of promised cloudy weather but the sky opened up and his photography tells the story of perfect conditions.

“As a Neuroscientist in the Computational Neurobiology Laboratory at the Salk Institute, it’s not that I’m passionate about many things, it’s more that I’m passionate about everything! My scientific explorations take me to many near and faraway places. I sometimes see things that no one has ever seen before, but also I look at familiar things in new ways. The more I open my eyes to what’s around me, the more I learn about myself. I realize that the observed and the observer are inextricably linked.

While some scientists deny their emotions in pursuit of objectivity, the truth is this is but an illusion. Instead, I choose to revel in the beauty of the natural world and hope to share this wondrous world with you.”

Tom Bartol

Tom and Wendy sent a few photos he captured during their getaway. Click to see some of Tom’s work available to purchase on Fine Art America. Tom shares info about his images, below.

From: Tom Bartol A great Astro and Nature adventure.

Thank you Proof-Readers!

One thing I’m pretty good at are typos. Thanks to several of you who pointed out my most recent goof. (Well, it did make it through spell check!) Even though I read that post several times today between calls and appointments, I don’t think I would have caught it in a million years. Thank you for your sharp eyes.

I can hear a marketing mentor many years ago saying “avoid words with seven letters or more” and ‘”Sesame Street It” by encouraging single subjects and keeping things simple.

My goof had 9 letters. If it had been the intended word, it would have had 10. So, I decided to Sesame Street It and change the goof to “many” on the third line here. Yes, many people are still waiting for the perfect property to make their dream come true on Palomar.

More coming up real soon!

(If there are typos in this post, I’m just going to blame it on the late hour! Goodnight everyone!)

What just closed and what’s coming up?

That amazing off-grid, ultra modern has a new owner. Such a fabulous view! When you check out the listing, you can see it was on the market just 31 days before we opened escrow and closed in just 18 days. There are many folks out there looking for the perfect place to get away on Palomar. What do you have you’re thinking of letting go? Yes, I’m still on the mountain and glad to help get a few more sold.

So, how about the property where I took the photo?? Glad you asked! That view is coming soon! My cowboy already put those signs up. We’ve had a little delay getting the finishing touches all ready for you and in just a couple days we’ll be ready for showings.

What’s in the works? 8.9 acres with an unfinished shell. Years ago, the owner bought a 100 year old cottage in Ranch Santa Fe. He had it cut in half to get up to his land. The first half was set on the foundation just perfect. The second half slipped off the crane and wasn’t very happy at all. Insurance covered some repairs, and it is down to studs on the inside. Meanwhile, all the work was permitted, well and septic are installed and it is ready for your finishing touches. One thing I’m guessing you’ll add is a wrap-around deck to take in that spectacular view.

Four showings last week, two appointments yesterday and two more today. Glad to help achieve your goals for Real Estate on Palomar.

Bonnie Phelps, Mountain Realtor looking forward to meeting our next New Neighbors!

Puddles on Palomar?

Usually we’ve had several fun summer thunderstorms with much-appreciated rain by now. So far? Nothing. This past week we’ve been promised chances of thunderstorms with maybe 1/10th of rain and even some flash flooding. It has been hot and humid but the storms have skirted us. Finally, today I heard thunder, off in the distance. Not a drop of rain here at the top.

This afternoon, heading down the East Grade I saw the asphalt was damp! Further down there were a couple areas where dirt had run off onto the road!!! Happy dance!! I really wanted to pull over and take a photo but had to keep going to meet my clients on time. Much to my surprise, pulling up to that lovely home on 77 acres, there were puddles!!! Yes, real puddles. You know, the kind that reflect the sun on the water?

So, for those of you also praying for rain, part of our beautiful mountain did get a bit of a bath. Smelled soooo good! Wish I could post this as a ‘scratch and sniff’! And, it did make for a lovely view:

This view can be yours, you know. Click for more photos of the property that got the most rain on all of Palomar today!

Rain, sleet, snow or a sizzling summer day, they are all great days to come for a tour ’round the mountain!

Let’s do this!
