Fireworks from Palomar

Firework viewing from Palomar is always fun.  No crowds, easy to park…  just pull over at one of the lookouts and watch the show all across the county. We counted 17 locations one year at a party on the rim.  It is fun to try and guess the locations of the shows from the mountain top.  This list of a couple dozen shows just arrived from my title company.  However, it is missing one we often see!  If it is clear out there, Catalina Island usually has the longest show.   Enjoy celebrating the birth of our great country!

New Neighbors – The Peters Family

65096293_2846003315442274_6036477432452612096_n

Mitch and Sarah Peters are so excited to have their own cabin in the woods. Mom is a kitchen designer at Home Depot Design Center and hoping on a position where she can work from home. Mitch works in sales and delivery.  Daughter, Giana is looking forward to meeting all the other kids, making new friends, having lots of wonderful adventures  and enjoying her fun new room at the cabin.  And, the family pup? Well, Guapo is so pretty and used to clean living in the city but very happy with the idea of chasing squirrels and having a wonderful life on Palomar with the family.

3rd cabin closing!

5

Real estate has sure been busy this week with three escrows closing. I haven’t even had a minute to post ‘Sold’ signs so this one will have to do.

The little 80 year old fixer that had half the roof blow off in a storm last summer is (finally) in the hands of a new owner.  Observatory Ridge Views might win the prize for the longest escrow in my 21 years.  We opened in August.  I’d sold it before but this time a new burdening easement surfaced. That easement gobbed up almost half of the land! Lots of work was done with title, the county, and neighbors to puzzle it out and get a clean plan of action.  Everyone was now content to move forward.  The new owners have great plans to restore and add their touches to make it a much-loved cabin once again.

A very happy couple and their daughter are moving this weekend to the Happy A-Frame in the Woods. They were up to seal wood floors yesterday and are so excited to join the full-timers here on the mountain.  Another addition to Kids Club!  Hooray!

Rusty Spurs had TWO buyers!  I first posted it on a Thursday night on Palomar Mountain News. The next day a couple drove over from Phoenix and we wrote up their offer.  They left on a trip for two weeks but had some medical issues and had to cancel – so sorry.  Moving ahead to market it again, I started with an album on Facebook.  I remembered a couple that had seen cabins up here several times had friended me last year or so.  I tagged her on the album.  That basement workshop had her husband’s name all over it!  They came to see, opened escrow and it was just confirmed a few minutes ago.

Recently we have had so much extra work done on cabins to get them ready to market and also to satisfy lenders.  Depending on the loan, some lenders do not like chipped paint, properties without a ‘permanent source of thermostat controlled heat’ or leaking roofs.  Do you need new carpet, drywall work, water heater or stove?  Does your cabin need a little love, repairs that need to happen, stuff to go away?  We have a growing list of options to get the job done.  Glad to help.

I’ve promised more new listings and they are in the works!  Owners are coming from Texas to have a last stay at their cabin, 10 acres of land is getting some road work done, another cabin is having some remodeling and a wood stove installed, a well-build, lovely view home is in the works…  please stay tuned!

Meanwhile, we are at an all-time low and many buyers waiting!  Do you have a ranch, home, cabin or land you’ve considered selling?  Let’s get your questions answered.

Happy Summer to All!

No June Gloom on Palomar!

IMG_6131

Hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating dads.

On our way to the city for the day, I had to pull over to take this for you.  We’re this bright, beautiful and sunny ‘island in the sky’ on the mountain.  Dipping down into the clouds the June Gloom covers most of the ‘flatlands’.  At one point, when I wished I had a sweater, I commented that it felt like rain.

Coming back up was so amazing last night.  Thick clouds and then breaking through to see the giant moon.  Just had to share.

For you folks looking to escape the over cast city these days, Palomar is the perfect place.  And, I’m always glad to open some doors for you!  Love to have you join us on the mountain top!

Saturday Fun

IMG_5801

When you live on a little mountain extra opportunities are always fun and a chance to meet some great mountain folks!

Let’s see, tomorrow you could load up bright and early to drop off unwanted stuff at  Dumpster Days.  Then head on over to Dave and Nancy’s yard sale!  They are planning a move to Maine and have some treasures that just might be a great find for you!  Follow the bright green signs on Crestline!

How about lunch at Mother’s Kitchen?  Great omelets on weekends. My lunch favorite would be the Nacho Supreme, and you’ve gotta have a smoothie!

For those interested in Real Estate, I always have some doors to open for you and extra keys in my pocket…

We have a brand new family that just arrived with two children, another family with one are excited to close escrow real soon. Inspections are also this week for a new couple who have finally found the perfect cabin!

New listings heading our way, too!   Let’s connect!  The trees have leafed out, rain is over for a while and Spring has arrived above the clouds. Need to get out there and take those marketing photos!

Looking forward to helping with all your real estate needs and seeing YOU ’round the mountain!

Mountain Lions – be prepared!

South of State Park Road, May 22, 2019
We are seeing mountain lions and bobcats very often now.  Over the 20 years we have lived here, I rarely saw cats, the past couple years, it is very often.  I’ve seen several just from my desk walking up the road or across the orchard.  Those lions are protected and have no predators anymore so are really multiplying.
Recently one was by the front door when another neighbor family arrived home.  It was pretty aggressive and didn’t want to move, finally sundered way only to return a few minutes later.
When I saw the photo above I said out loud, “this could have been a child”. That deer is about the size of a couple dozen kids who enjoy playing outside on this beautiful mountain. Can’t be too careful.

The photo reminded me of Doc and Anne’s three mountain lions that jumped their 10 foot fence to take off with their chickens.  Glad Doc was able to grab his gun on the way out the door to defend his livestock.  Doc and Anne said they haven’t had lions in their yard since.  They think it is important to make the visit unpleasant and loud so the lions might teach their young to stay away from that diner…

From: Mountain Neighbor – photo above

“… What an amazing picture I got on my game camera 2 days ago just 25 yards from my cabin.  Three years of clearing brush and trying to improve the habitat for deer, just to have this guy poaching on our land. Doesn’t he know it’s not deer season. He don’t care. I read a mountain lion kills a deer or other large animal every week. No wonder there are no deer around here.”

I’ve been planning on turning around the photo but it became a top priority  a few minutes ago when I saw a child hiking with his dad was attacked mid-afternoon today. Thankful the father was right there in the group of 10 people, throwing rocks.  Glad to hear the little 4 year old should recover.

That link also mentions tips for dealing with lions.
