Do you have a PO Box?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Do you have a “no fee” PO Box?  Your box might get closed!

No fee boxes are provided as a free service when you show a copy of your deed, since we don’t have mail delivery.  However, each year, you are to sign a card to renew that box.  I’ve been living on Palomar and selling Real Estate for over 20 years and didn’t know that.

I just had a ‘learning opportunity’ and this is a heads up so YOU don’t get your box closed.

Here is what happened:

Mail had not been picked up in a box that was set up two years ago March.  Mail was picked up the end of February.  Mail was not picked up during the month of March when a card was put in the box that needed to be signed and returned.  10 days later another card was put in the box to sign and return.  Even though the PO has phone numbers on file, they are not allowed to give a call to see if you want to keep your box.  The box is closed. The mail in the box was returned (!) and the lock is changed.

In this situation, the closed box was discovered when the mail box key would not work.  The box holder was able to renew the box and keep the same number (for $28.00 for a ‘no fee’ box, less $6.00 for returning two keys).  But 30 days of mail is long gone!

I was told “it happens all the time”.  It is a Post Office rule.  There is no bending the rules.

There was quite a list on the wall of boxes coming up that will be closed if the PO doesn’t have their signed form back in time.  The next time you are in the Post Office, be sure to check on your date of when you first got your box. You might want to set a reminder in your calendar to confirm each year that you sign their form and get it turned in.

Also, the wonderful man on Palomar, who greets all of us with a smile, Mayolo, is a pleasure to deal with.  He is just doing his job and needs to go by the rules.

Thanks Mayolo for being there for us and we hope you have fewer boxes to close this year!

IMG_7487

Scramble on over for fresh eggs from happy hens!  Sunshine’s chickens are organically fed, hand raised, come in many colors and are snuggled-by-the Treasures (oh, you know, our grandkids!).

Sunshine’s hens are laying about two dozen eggs a day!

You are welcome to call or message me to reserve your eggs.

Directions to the Stand: From the Summit, take State Park Road just over a mile.  You can’t miss the Woodpecker Firewood and Egg Stand on your right.

Sunshine’s eggs are guaranteed to start your day with a Sunny Smile!

Wormgold for GSOB?

Some areas on Palomar have already lost once-healthy oak trees to the Gold Spotted Oak Borer.   I have posted about a spray treatment that has been used but it was pointed out that the spray kills bees and other insects.

Our son, Brandon and his family live on Palomar  and one reason they moved here was because of their desire to live in a beautiful forest.  Brandon has done a lot of research to treat the trees on their land and hopefully save them.

I asked him to share the information with all of you.  Of the different options I have heard about, this one sounds like it makes the most sense.  Read More…

Early Spring Real Estate Update

IMG_4424

We are welcoming Spring a week early this year!  After over two months of pretty steady rain and snow, the last couple days have been wonderful!   This was the view from my desk yesterday morning.  Mid afternoon, we were in a think cloud.  It rained again last night, so our snow is but a memory.  Today that bright blue, sunny sky came back.  It is going to be a beautiful Spring!

The past few months have been extra busy working my 5 active escrows to get some to the finish line.  Several new easements have been put in place to so new buyers have the easements they need – or in one case, a 100 foot easement that cross their land and benefited no one, another had an easement show up that is 50 feet wide that goes right over the cabin!  Pretty interesting ideas some folks had many decades ago.

The phone already started ringing with the weekend filling up with showing and listing appointments!  But, I can fit YOU in!  How may I help you?

What is For Sale?

Glad you asked! Read More…

Change those clocks to not miss a minute of the beauty we enjoy on Palomar.

Enjoy every minute,

Snow on Palomar – chains required

chains required

Guessing many of you love snow just about as much as I do.  I’ve seen photos taken from off-mountain, and our snow looks sooooooo inviting.  If you are reading this from the Flatlands and planning on bringing your family up this weekend, chains are required.

It is very beautiful up here but if you can make it up during the week, you might enjoy it even more. Read More…

Phone News

phone time Bonnie Phelps

“Hello!”

Most of you probably no longer have an old fashioned phone, plugged in to the wall.  But for those of you who do, storms often bring phone static and outages.

My desk phone has been out for a week.  You might wonder what I did without a phone!  No problem.  AT&T offers “The Message Center” that makes it easy to roll calls to another number.  I rolled the calls to my cell (it works here now – Hooray!) and didn’t miss a beat. Some of you might appreciate that service that includes 3-way calling and other features.

When you do have phone issues, connect with AT&T at contact info below as soon as you can.  I was given a date two weeks out to get my phone working again, but – ta da!  It has dial tone a week early.  Thanks to our AT&T friends of Palomar.

AT&T Phone Company 800 310-2355 or www.att.com

Other options for phones on Palomar are VoIP phones that work through your internet.  Cell phones are working at more properties these days and include call-forwarding, 3-way calling and other features that I am quite certain I don’t even know about.

Just wanted to pass this info on as it may be helpful to some folks out there.  Glad to get questions answered anytime.

Road Crew gearing up!

joe

It is amazing how much more snow is on Crestline from the last storm!  Maybe 5 inches or so!  The berms along the road and in front of the driveways are pretty high.  It was great to see Joe out with the big loader.  He is working on moving the snow off the roads with that big bucket, into their easement.   His goal is to keep Crestline and Baileys with two lanes open.   Time will tell!

We had been teased with two feet of this white stuff.  I just added up the forecast and now we are down to closer to a foot. It has been snowy with sleet off and on, giving us only a dusting here on State Park Road.  Guessing Crestline and other areas might have even more if it behaves like the last storm.

What ever comes our way, we really appreciate around-the-clock dedication of our local crew and all who put in the extra hours during these storms. THANK YOU!

Let it Snow!
