It is always such a nice time to slip away, have dinner at Lazy H and listen to the Smith Mountain Boys. This coming Thursday night they are back! Strumming and singing, sharing their gifts of great harmony and guitar picking. You can smile and visit, sing along, some of us even get up and dance a bit.
Can you make it Thursday night? Hope so.
So, here is what you do. Email Jack, the owner at The H to make your reservation. The music starts at 5:00 and the guys sing right through until eight o’clock.
Be sure to make reservations info@lazyh.com. It fills up fast, so you might mention that you’re glad to share tables with that Palomar crowd.

Don’t you wish you could fly? I feel like have have been the past few weeks. So busy!!!
My last Real Estate post included three homes for sale on the mountain. Within a few days, we had multiple offers, over asking, and have three new families so excited to be in escrow.
Sellers were busy moving, it was snowing, lots of staging was done, house cleaners arrived, disclosure packages were out for signatures, we celebrated Christmas, inspections completed, repairs in the works, I’ve taken appraisers ’round to measure all and shoot their comps, it snowed again, the bird flew by, we celebrated New Years (Happy 2022!!!), survey work is being done, easements are all plotted, and the first escrow is to close in a week. Here is what is in Pending. But alas, what about the other folks with offers??? So sad! They still want a place of their own on our magical mountain!
Yes, I always seem to have homes, cabins, ranches or land coming up. But, we could sure use MORE! Thinking about letting your mountain property go? I do believe I’ve met some folks recently who would be over the moon to be the next owner, plus all the patient subscribers on PMNews. They are all so anxious to create their happy mountain memories on Palomar.
It was sooooooo beautiful at Mountain Rose after the snow, I had to take a few pix. I didn’t notice the bird until I was looking through the photos later. Thanks to Jim and Teresa McCarthy, who confirmed it is a chickadee.
Thinking of selling? The timing hasn’t been better. Buyers will fly right up to see the newest listings!
What a craftsman! One of our newer neighbors, Alfred, sure has been leaving a beautiful signature ’round Palomar. He just finished the tile in this bathroom and did such a great job.
We noticed some of our bricks on the patio were settling. Alfred to the rescue! Those ground squirrels had moved in and created quite a condo complex under the brick. He knew just what to do by digging an 18 inch deep trench all around the patio exterior that he filled with cement to keep them out forever. Alfred then compacted the area, leveled the brick, and we’re ready for our next party.
Here is his website with photos of other type of work he has done and his contact info.
Bonnie Phelps, anxious to have Alfredo back for more projects!
It was so fun to have Israel Guevara stop by with his wife and family. First time meeting his family. He has worked on our land and for many of my clients for many years. He was up recently with his crew on several properties getting some huge standing-dead trees on the ground, dropping hangers and bucking, splitting, stacking and chipping to make the land more firesafe.
When I saw his young son in jeans and cowboy boots, I had to smile. Our youngest grandson, Atticus had just been here trying on last year’s snow gear with no success. Perfect timing as it all fit Israel’s son in time to use the sled run. Hooray for sledding!

In case it’s missing, I used your sign as emergency detour for down power lines. Then left it to SDGE . I’ll look when snow lets up. Mark
Oh my, so many trees and power lines down in multiple places from this storm! Lots of firewood to glean all around this mountain. Lots of bounders have found their way in the roads. This has been quite a storm with more promised.
A sincere thanks for all the extra work to the fire department, County Road crews and all neighbors who have worked together to start the clean up and make our wonderful little community what it is.
I heard about one of our very fortunate neighbors getting out of his car just before it unfortunately became a pancake. Wonderful timing, but so sorry about his car.
When I got this note from Mark with his creative use of one of my signs, I did have to smile. Great idea to block the road a bit to help make the downed power line situation out of Birch Hill safer for all the rest of you folks. Glad my sign came in handy.
Got a text from Fred with Western Broadband about 8:20 pm. He was just able to get through to one of his internet areas needing repair and internet on the east end of Crestline will be back up and running as soon as possible. Fred is working on it. Aren’t you thankful YOU aren’t out there in this storm?
Thanks to everyone who IS. You are all appreciated!
Last year all the mountain folks were invited to a Living Nativity performed by some of the local kids. It was so nice. We met out in front of the Lodge and watched and listened to the children tell the Christmas Story. The angels sang. The sheep arrived, along with Mary and Joseph, the shepherds were there and even the wise men came from afar. I printed the photos and made little stand-up frames to use on our table for our Christmas gatherings. When I decorated this year, they were set up again and I remembered I hadn’t shared them with you. So, here you are:
We were promised up to seven inches overnight but I think most of us were happy with just the dusting this time. Had an early showing for my custom home listing on East Grade. It was 24 degrees when we went out to get in the truck. The door handles were frozen shut. Burrr! I was glad to have my heated sox on. (Yes, they really are nice!)
The snow line was right at Will Valley. We drove a little further and pulled in the driveway to the 77 acres. May I open the gate for a tour for YOU?
On the way up the mountain, we stopped at Palomar Homestead. So gorgeous out with the sun sparkling on the snow. Can you believe that view from the house? It was amazing seeing Point Loma, the San Diego Skyline and Coronado Islands out there. Click for all the photos and a snow tour.
Next stop was Mountain Rose. Isn’t this the perfect snow ever?! A fun hike around the property is waiting for you here, too. Photo Tour and snow pix at Mountain Rose
We got home to the phone ringing. An agent in Valley Center has a couple pre-approved buyers for Palomar cabins and asked to video my listings for her out of state clients. Sure, come on up! So, my cowboy side-kick took off with my keys, built a fire for us and turned on all the lights. A little while later I was back at the three listings so naturally had to take even more photos for you.
Who would like to join us for our Four Seasons of Fun on the mountain top? Your first stop is here to peek at some maps and to pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or a favorite tea to take along on our little tour.
Always glad to open the doors and if the cowboy is around , he’ll get a nice fire going for us.
Bonnie Phelps, Lovin’ Life as your Four Season Realtor
If your schedule is anything like ours, you have it packed full of holiday parties. How about squeezing in one more sure-to-be-fun evening? This Thursday night, Lazy H for dinner and the always-foot tapping music of Palomar’s own, Smith Mountain Band. They just may include some Christmas music this week!
5 to 8 but be sure to make reservations info@lazyh.com. You’re welcome to share tables which makes it even more fun!
Lazy H is in Pauma Valley and has some wonderful stories of all the folks who have enjoyed dining there for decades. John Wayne, Buster Keaton and Billy and Ruth Graham and many more, during the time they had homes in the valley. Well, now it can be YOU enjoying the grilled chicken or sea bass (my fav), a steak, those yummy pork chops, their homemade soups and salad dressings. As our grandson Atticus says to the waitress, “Please may we have another order of potato skins” and be sure to save room spumoni or creme brulee.
How about the potential for income from 3 units on one piece of land? Or, live in one and rent the two others? I usually don’t post our off-mountain listings but one of you just might be interested in this one. The owners lived in the main house, moved and still have the little cottage and another rental unit rented to some nice folks who would like to stay.
Nathan helped the owners update a bit, staged and listed this 2 days ago so we are promised offers tomorrow, but just in case you’d like to peek, here is a preview: Three on One in Lakeside
Dreaming of a cabin for Christmas? This charmer on Bailey Meadow Road is a delight. Fine craftsmanship, open beam ceilings and (drum roll) the most enchanting bathroom on Palomar. You. Must. See! Oh, sooooo lovely!
Click for a quick peek before our storm. Should have snow photos for you in a couple days! Meanwhile, let’s connect for your tour. I’ll slip over, build a quick fire, turn on the heat and you can you’ll know… this Cabin-in-the-Woods just may be The One!
