Oh, another adventure today for this mountain Realtor! Taking photos for a new listing coming up, the last guests had left the lid off the Vegetable Oil. The lid was right there so I put it on and sat it on the shelf. Then I noticed a little ‘twig’ in the bottom of the container. See that twig? What???!? It’s NOT a twig???
Well, I looked in and saw two mice that were apparently non-swimmers. A little tomato was on the counter too so I threw that in just for fun.
There were a couple mouse traps in the cabin, but no mice. Cheese just doesn’t do it these days apparently. It’s so easy to simply leave out an open container of vegetable oil. The first one dives in and calls to his pals. Put the lid on and – ta da. You just cut down on the mouse population. Hooray!
You’re welcome.
Thinking I won’t include these pix in the marketing….
Running around taking photos for new listings, a new pal showed up. Realizing this little guy perhaps had some experience with let’s say, ‘angle shots in my direction’ I was real polite. He was welcome to explore all he wanted and it wasn’t long until he decided I was of no interest to him.
Oh, real estate adventures on Palomar. Thankfully I am not experimenting with Tomato Soup this afternoon.
At this very moment, this charming cabin IS available! Gotta be quick!
‘The Partridge Nest’, also known over the years as ‘The Definition of Cute’, is now available for a new owner. It would be so fun for full-time living with such easy access, but also as been one of the most sought-after vacation rentals on Airbnb. With beginnings in 1928, over the past 10 years, a former owner pulled permits, added on, and restored the cabin to make it so easy to move right in and enjoy. Don’t you just love the furnishings? They are an option too, so you could even spend the night when escrow closes.
‘Fresh Air Resort’, a vintage cabin tucked away in it’s own private forest on the well-kept secret of Palomar Mountain. Cozy up to the original stone fireplace built about 80 decades ago. When the owner had me over, he talked about some projects he planned to do over the years that will be left for you. Then we stopped on the patio and he pointed to the three towering fir trees and said, “I discovered my cathedral here and sit on the patio and talk to God”. It is a very special place. My husband was leaving to go out of state for a few days so put up several new signs for me. That prompted a few calls and neighbors just had to have it. They will take over the projects of a new roof, moving out the residents (oh, you know, those pesky woodpeckers and mice), installing new siding, getting the propane working again, adding heat throughout the cabin, new windows and a few more things to keep them busy. But meanwhile the owner, a fine craftsman, built some beautiful cabinets and the live edge counters with mountain wood, installed new flooring throughout and in a little bunk shabin out back. He is invited to visit anytime he’d like to see the progress of ‘Fresh Air Resort’.
A last minute call came in to see one of my new listings. Ephraim and Amiee came up for a late afternoon tour. Ephraim said he had been trolling Palomar Real Estate since he met me at Remax years ago. He was their IT guy and spent many hours keeping my lappy happy back in those days. He said I was always talking about the mountain and they decided recently that they needed their own piece of paradise up here.
When they arrived, it was lightly snowing and so beautiful out. We went over to see and they just had to have one of our very special cabins and wouldn’t leave until we wrote it up. Then the power went out! My cowboy wasn’t home to hook up the generator. Buyer to the Rescue!!! Being an IT guy, Ephraim had a portable internet hook up so we were off and running!
What cabin sold? Sorry to say, as several of you had your eyes on this one. The Owl has flown away. Yes, the Spotted Owl is in escrow. The owners have an over-asking offer with no contingencies, a quick close, and were given extra time after closing to move out. Click to see the MLS listing with all the new photos I took yesterday morning.
Working on all the new listings I’ve been blessed with lately. I’ll be out and about today so will capture some fresh snow photos. What’s next? New photos for the charming Partridge Nest and then I think we’ll have some ocean view land to tempt you.
About 7 inches of snow on the ground here with more on the way. Such an amazing Winter Wonderland, this beautiful Palomar Mountain!

Dutch Bergman stopped by, warming up a bit in front of our fire. You know who Dutch is, right? He is one half of the Smith Mountain Boys. And … drum roll …. he is playing and singing with the other half, Bruce Druliner, this Thursday night at The H! Dutch was trying to tell us that the band has way more fun than anyone in the room. I beg to differ!!! The audience has waaaay more fun than the band!!!
Come on out Thursday night and judge for yourself!

Thursday night we can all celebrate this week’s storm being over! Now the report is saying we might only get 7 inches instead of 17 – hooray! Oh nooooooo, it just changed to maybe 19 inches by Thursday! Check it out on NOAA. We’ll know for sure how much snow by show-time.
Warm up at the Lazy H listening to both halves of the Smith Mountain Boys!
See you there!

We are teased with maybe 17 inches of snow this week! Well, that is what they say this very chilly President’s Day! Looking out from my desk, I don’t see much but a thick cloud rolling through. According to NOAA, there is a storm on the way complete with the promise of high winds, too!
BTW, if you thought of taking a big trailer load of junk down to the Pala transfer station like that cowboy I live with, it’s closed today… but you can get a great breakfast at El Rey! You’re welcome.
Do you remember when this holiday was called ‘Washington’s Birthday’? My mom’s birthday was the same day. (Not the same year, silly! That would make her daughter VERY old!) George would have been 290 today. Mom? Let’s see. She was born in 1925 so she would be celebrating 97 years old! Happy Birthday Mom!
