‘High Mountain Home’ Music at Lazy H

It was very special the last time we were at Lazy H to hear Dutch and Bruce sing my all-time favorite song that Dutch wrote; High Mountain Home.

Dutch has written beautiful songs woven with some of his family history, and tells of his love for the mountain that so many of us share.

Friends for nearly 50 years, Dutch Bergman and Bruce Druliner look forward to every time they can sing and play their guitars together.

Tomorrow night is another chance to come on out to one of their concerts! Play that video while you make your reservation – Thursday the 29th at Lazy H Restaurant!

HIGH MOUNTAIN HOME

By Dutch Bergman

The sunshine and blue skies
The snow storms and thunder
This mountain has been home to me
I work here and live here
And I never shall wander
‘Cause I’ve seen all that I need to see
Some beautiful places – lots of nice people
I hope to see them again
But nothing can change this feelin’ inside me
This mountain is my closest friend

I sweat in the summer
From hours in the saddle
And I shiver when the winter winds blow
I dream of the spring time
And the smell of new cattle
And ridin’ all the back trails I know
Laid back in my bedroll with the night all around me
Every star is like a jewel in the sky
Sleep comes easy for a trail weary cowboy
As the crickets chirp their lullaby

And I’ll never surrender my memories
Of a full moon on December’s first snow
Or the look in your eyes on a quiet night
As we lay in the fire’s soft glow
This feelin’ is flowing like a river inside me
And the water is the blood in my veins
I’m tied to this mountain by the bonds of my fathers
And that’s stronger than any man’s chains

I’m tied to this mountain by the bonds of my fathers
and that’s stronger than any man’s chains.

You’ll come out now, ya hear!

Like to know your approximate property corners?

Recently I sold 40 acres down in Pedley Valley. Think this was the 4th time I sold that land, I should know the corners by now!!! A few owners ago had it surveyed but there was one corner I hadn’t been to. It is the southerly corner, to the west of the old Pipeline Road. It is way back in on that north slope of Crestline. Steep, very steep!

The new owners wanted to see the corners. That is understandable but this is very rough country. I downloaded a new app. This app had taken me to the surveyed corners on a pretty level piece of land but for this very steep Pedley corner I didn’t have too much faith in it working properly.

Ok, I need to say that I am not a surveyor, nor do I pretend to be. Just trying out a program that another Realtor pointed me to and having fun with technology. Don’t need to go to the gym these days, just hike out and play with the app!

The owners and I drove as close as we could, then started following the little blue dot on my ipad, way down the steep canyons and back up again, over logs, past the deer, under hangers and finally got to where the corner was to be. That little blue dot stopped us right in front of a tall survey stake in the middle of no where! Amazing!

So, I had to try it on another listing last night with the very skeptical cowboy. We found one easy corner then I took off on a hike for 644 feet in an area even hard for birds to fly through. I’d not been to this corner either but I finally got into the cedar trees to where the app said the corner should be. I had no clue where I was but held out my hand to tie a pink flag on a branch for the approximate location. Lo and behold, I just giggled!!! Do you see what I see? There was the survey stake about 5 inches from where I was going to tie on the pink flag.

Would you like to play with this program? Simply download Land Glide (or another called OnX), enter your parcel number, download to your device and have your boots on. Use it free for one week. Or, I’m glad to pop by for a fun hike.

Chris and Sons +Bluegrass Music Saturday Night

It was such a pleasure to meet Chris Clarke and his sons when they came to the mountain and found their perfect getaway cabin. Ben and Ian are such great guys. Chris mentioned that one reason he was looking forward to time at their cabin was “no screens, no internet”. Those boys have had a blast. They cut and split a cord of wood together a few weeks ago. All they wanted to do was work in the woods for 4 days.

Their dad is in a Bluegrass Band called Plow. They are playing Saturday night, Sept. 17th at Heroes (formerly Wynola Pizza) in Santa Ysabel.

Another band plays at 2:00 and Plow will be setting up to start at 6:00 pm. See the details here.

Click for fun photos last time we heard Plow.

They will be outside, maybe on the big stage at behind the restaurant. You might appreciate a jacket.

Hope YOU can make it!

$899,000 for 10 Acres with Views, Home + Apartment?!?

Absolutely! Best price for value per square foot on Palomar Mountain!

How about gazing off your deck to Catalina out in the Pacific Ocean? Or seeing the morning sun light up the Observatory? So many turkeys and deer are very happy on this land. Those guys could make room if you wanted to have a little farm. Very easy to be self-sufficient here. In addition to being on the grid, it is set up to plug a generator in, just in case you are off-grid.

The property was named StarHavens and operated as a much-loved Airbnb the past couple years. We did close that down recently so it is easily available to show and for you to call your very own.

What will it be? Here are new photos and details: StarHavens and Loft to make your very own!

Come on up to the Mountain Top and let’s see if this is “The One”!

Deer and Turkeys and Wind, oh my!

Hurricane Kay is a storm out in the Pacific Ocean heading our way promising strong winds. It was still dark when the wind woke us up this morning. We ran outside, took down our flags, umbrellas, patio cushions, closed windows and picked apples. Yes, rather than blowing off the trees and bouncing around on the ground, we bagged them up for applesauce.

Wow, 109 miles per hour outside of Julian! NOAA weather reported 96 mph winds at Cuyamaca Peak about an hour away. Palomar reported only 59 mph. Hummm, that is what our thermometer shows, too, 59 degrees. Maybe we’ll stoke up that woodstove today!

NOAA is also hinting at the possibility of maybe 2 to 4 inches of rain in the mountains and deserts? Thank would be a wonderful blessing for the Hemet and Anza fire, now over 27,000 acres.

The deer and turkeys had a wonderful time down in our orchard for a few hours. Winds have picked up now and I’m thinking they are taking shelter elsewhere so they don’t blow away.

Here is a tip: No parking under trees! No more car pancakes on Palomar, please!

Bonnie Phelps, having fun with Real Estate while on Storm Watch, hoping you are too!

Smell Smoke? Helpful link.

Last night we were turning out the lights and I smelled smoke. We went to the windows and sure enough, we both smelled smoke. We got dressed and the cowboy grabbed a shovel thinking someone if we came across a campfire with the wind we had, it could be helpful. Driving around our properties we saw all was well ’round our neighborhood. Then, we remembered the Hemet fire and realized the smoke was drifting up from there.

Apparently it is still only 5% contained when I checked this link. Hoping that rain predicted for arriving Friday can help with this situation. Hoping the firemen can get this under control real soon.

StarHavens 2 on 1 Back on the Market!

The sunset was so beautiful as I reached the top of the mountain tonight, I had to run up to StarHavens. The sun had just slipped away behind Catalina Island. It was so refreshing to pause a minute in my very busy day and watch the birds having such a wonderful time playing back and forth on the wires.

So very sorry that moving to the mountain is not working out for the nice couple who had this in escrow for a few days. It will be very exciting to meet whoever it is that will be our next new neighbors. Could that be YOU?

This past week I’ve had so many showings with four clients touring just before sunset. It’s always beautiful on the mountain top but as you can see, evenings are extra special. Click for the photos and MLS info.

When is a good time for your tour?
