Space-X Launch from Palomar

Thanks to Mike for sending such interesting photos to share. This was taken last night of the Space-X launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

From: Mike Pique

Falcon-9 first stage passing below Arcturus last night. Great view from the west deck – except it went behind the big stand of Incense Cedars and didn’t re-appear until after staging. I did see the first stage “entry burn” clearly about two minutes later. This is a screen shot of iPhone video… not bad for a cell phone I’d say.

StarHavens is taken!

A lovely couple came for a late showing yesterday and are making it their own! So excited to move in and join us fulltime in about two weeks! Quick escrow has everyone running to get inspections and well cert done.

We had it on the market early summer for a few weeks, took it off mid July for everyone to finish up their vacations and get kids back in school. Just put it back up as active 3 days ago. Lots of showings and – poof – it is in Pending.

Had a great photographer here but didn’t even get the photo link to you yet. Click for the eye candy including the Observatory view and some beautiful sunset sky!

Labor Day Weekend Picnic in the Park

From: Mike Pique

Everyone is invited to the low pressure, no-obligation picnic/pot luck at the Palomar Mountain County Park (from Crestline Road, turn left at Road Marker 4), noon of Labor-Day-Weekend Saturday, September 3rd.

The goal is “taking it easy”: no official sponsoring group, no organizing committee, no fancy flyer, no yard sale, no opportunity drawings, no community information tables, no fire engine tour, no visit by Smokey Bear.

Our proclamation: “just show up with some food to share and maybe bring an extra chair”.  Catch up with the neighbors you know and meet some new ones.

I will bring up some Jilberto’s Mexican food like I did for Mayolo’s retirement party.  The Borlands will bring lemonade.

Please share the invitation among your neighbors.

See you there,

Mike

Double Header Thursday and Friday Night!

We’ve been enjoying the music of Dutch Bergman and Bruce Druliner since about 1975! It is always a great time with friends and neighbors and new folks we meet each time the Smith Mountain Boys have a gig.

This week there are TWO events! The cowboy wants to go Thursday Night to Lazy H. Well, we haven’t been to the new pizza place in Wynola yet. New owners named it ‘Heros’ as a tribute to our veterans. That sounds great to me! The cowboy just returned from Missouri trip number 5 and since we are eventually both heading that way (don’t know when) we decided to go to both venues! Come on out, we’d love to see you and for sure you’ll enjoy the music!

We’ll call this video clip an early ‘Merry Christmas’ from the band and just a taste of their great music. And yes, it’s ok to sing along. Details below for reservations for this week’s back-to-back fun.

What a fun photo shoot day!

Fancy photography with a drone was on the list for a few properties. I knew one of our mountain neighbors, Danny Cruz, flew drones and reached out to him. Well, Danny said his good friend Levi Dixon is the BEST. So, I staged all, ran around before he arrived to have the lights on, drapes open and everything as good as it was going to get. We took off and it was ‘lights, cameras and lots of action’. He shot five different properties in ten hours. Yes, we ate lunch and dinner on the run! I counted eight sets of stairs we ran up and down many times to get the perfect lighting and just the right angles. He offered to drive so it was my first time in a Tesla Model 3 – so much fun.

Levi pulled out a couple different drones at Round House Ranch. This fancy drone flew out through the forest for a close-up of the Observatory view and caught the attention of a few hawks. One swooped in, thinking it was a noisy option for lunch. Since Mr. Drone wasn’t the least bit tasty, the hawk went on his way. I finally turned on my camera and caught the return flight, thankful the drone was doing just fine. The hawk? We’re guessing he found an even better option for lunch.

Please stay tuned. Three of these properties have been off the market for a month or so but will be back up, better than ever in the next couple days.

Rain and a Rainbow

Beautiful pic from Mike Pique who was treated to a rainbow this afternoon on East Grade Road. We had the rain up on State Park Road. This video for you was 36 seconds but the rain? Much longer! Think it lasted maybe even two minutes. Wish I could post this as a scratch and sniff:

Bonnie Phelps, yes, dancing in the rain!

Post Office Update

The past few times I’ve been in the post office, Yasmira is the smiling face working hard behind the window. She lives in Escondido and normally works out of the Pauma office. She comes up when she is assigned to Palomar. The goal is to arrive about 1:30 and stay until 4:30. However, the Pauma and Valley Center Post Offices are both short-handed so they are doing the best they can. Sometimes they are only able to put the mail up but not have the window open because they are needed back in Pauma.

Yasmira said when she is working she tries to put as many packages as possible in the available lockers. However, some of the other staff might not, as it is much quicker to use the yellow cards and they sometimes need to get back down the mountain as soon as they can.

If you are needing the window open, you might call the mountain post office first to see if someone is there. 760-742-3044

They are hoping that they have applicants to fill available job openings real soon for Palomar, Pauma and Valley Center Post Offices.

Apply on line, more job info here.

Storm on Palomar

Isn’t this an awesome photo? Thank you to Mike Pique! He took this pic off his deck a few days ago. Out on the East Grade, he was looking southeast when the storm passed by, just missing his property. Hooray for all the rain that part of the mountain was treated to!

Need grading, excavating, road work?

Such a beautiful view today looking out to 8+ acres up out that ridge that are coming up for sale. You can see a bit of a clearing there where Robert Ruiz opened up the brush. The road up to the land had deep ruts so he first graded and worked the erosion that has happened over the years. I went over and checked out his work today and was so impressed. I’d forgotten to ask him to add some water bars and remembered only when I saw he’d installed a few. (Water bars are one of my favorite things!)

You can reach Robert Ruiz on his cell at 760-212-8998. He is often on the mountain so can meet up with you to check out a job.
