Big Rocks on South Grade

The Cruz family was going down South Grade and reports there are big rocks in the middle of the road above 45.4 mile marker.  You can get around them just fine.  I’ve called it in to the County Road Station. They will be out today, doing their job taking care of it and watching for mud slides and more.

You might keep the Road Station number handy: 760 749-0521 Hooray for James and Crew!

We had well over an inch of rain yesterday and it is raining steady all morning.  So thankful for this beautiful rain!

Beautiful Rain

img_0266

Pure eye-candy out there!  Such an absolutely beautiful day with over an inch of gentle rain. I ran over to take photos for the insurance company for Log Cabin Lodge’s escrow.  Had to share this with you, of low clouds over Mendenhall Valley, showing off one of the observatories.  Pretty special up here!

Movie Set – Then and Now – For Sale!

richard-cardella-crater-lake-monster   013

Have you seen ‘Crater Lake Monster’?  A film made in the 1970’s with many of the shots here on Palomar Mountain. In fact, the cabin known as ‘Honey, Stop the Car’ was used in this shot above.  That was back in the days when the kitchen was on the south side of the living area.  You see a bit of the beautiful stone fireplace behind the sheriff, going over maps and doing his job to solve the mystery.

Now the cabin is all brand new and back on the market with a beautiful virtual tour! Check it out all the new photos at http://www.palomarproperties.com/homes and I’m always glad to open the door!

Love to have YOU for new neighbors!

3 Propane Company’s Feedback

Over the couple months, I have met with three different propane companies.  All three drivers have been servicing Palomar for many years.  All three told me there are some properties they can no longer get to safely.  They have bigger trucks now, with tandem back wheels, and wouldn’t you know it – trees have grown and branches are lower.  Some of our little dirt roads have soft shoulders and very tight areas because of trees taking up more of the roads. Some areas have large stumps that are difficult to navigate. A couple weeks ago a propane truck needed to be towed as the weight of the truck slid it over the side.

The three drivers I talked to said they all carry only 200 feet of hose.  For some areas to get your next propane delivery, tree and road work will need to be done first.

Just a tip to take advantage of this clear weather and maybe evaluate your roads.  You might connect with your neighbors and have a work party or call in the locals.

Mountain Lion Photo Shoot

mtnions  mtnlion

Look who came for breakfast!  Thanks to neighbor Jim Hamerly for having his camera close to their table this morning and sharing his amazing photos with us.  Here are notes from his Facebook post:

<<< Eating breakfast at 7 am and these two young mountain lions sauntered by our home and stopped and just looked at us. For at least a minute. Explains why we haven’t seen any deer in the area this weekend.

We were inside our home, otherwise I think we would have been their breakfast. They stood there are stared at us for the longest time with a intensity that cannot be described. I felt like prey. I both respect and fear them. Walked right up to us and stared us down.

Apparently very unusual to see a male-female pair together. What is scary is that

(1) they can outrun a deer (and me!)

(2) can jump 15 vertical feet standing still and

(3) leap 30 feet out from a standing position. Awesome creatures, beautiful too. >>>

So… I googled  how to avoid a mountain lion attack and came up with over a million tips:  https://www.google.com/#q=mountain+lion+avoid+attack

Road closed until 3:30 ish

The South Grade might be closed until 3:30 or so.  There was a motorcycle fatality about half way on the grade.  So sorry. As it stands now, you would be driving to that half way point to learn that you need to turn around and take another route.
