Like to Audition?

none

I happen to know there are quite a few folks up here who sing or have acting back grounds.  Until we get our own theatre group, there are two audition opportunities for you coming up close by:

Night On Broadway  – A Musical Review

And Then There Were Nine – Agatha Christie murder mystery for the Fall Show

Both auditions will be held this Sunday, 11:00am-noon and Monday, 7:00-8:00 pm.

Community Lutheran Church – Bailey/Bees Theater

3575 E. Valley Parkway  Escondido, CA  92027

For NOB, come in with the song you want to sing.  For ATTWN, a good dramatic monologue. Call Chris 760-638-6042 for information.

FD Mtg and Election of Officers

From: Cliff Kellogg

Annual Fire Dept Meeting and Election of Officers

The Palomar Mountain Fire Department will be holding it’s annual board meeting and election of officers on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 12 noon at the fire station. The board of directors has spent considerable time in rewriting our by-laws to reflect the new arrangement with San Diego County Fire. The community of Palomar Mountain will be voting on the new by-law modifications. In addition, the department will be updating the community on future plans for the station and the community center.

This year there are two open positions on the fire board. Anyone wishing to serve the community on the fire department board of directors is welcome to visit our webpage palomar-fire.org. Under “Contact Us” there is a link “I want to run for the board” along with the minimum qualifications for running. The last day for nominations is noon on August 20th. We hope you can make it to this important meeting.

Wow, what a View!

paramotor 2

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s paramotor pilots having fun over Palomar!  Family friend, Jeff Sikora sent the photos our way.  He is also a pilot but was driving ground crew for his buddies July 25th.  They took off from Warner Springs and flew over the Observatory on their way to Lake Skinner.  Photographer/pilot, Jeff Hamann, got some great shots of World Class JC Perren with his paramotor.

1 1/2 inches of rain in 40 minutes!

We’re enjoying a wonderful summer thunder storm. When the sky opened and started pouring rain, it hasn’t let up!   Lots of thunder and lightening too.  I think the video below is what got a lot of us loving thunderstorms.  Enjoy!  Meanwhile here is a tip for you:

THUNDERSTORMS IN THE FORECAST?  Best to unplug all appliances including computers, TV’s, refrigerators (12 hours on, 12 hours off) and anything else at risk of frying in a thunderstorm.  Neighbors have lost all of the above leaving them plugged in.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy this rain!

Bear’s Den Mountain Home for Sale

The Pedley/Clark family roots on Palomar go back over 100 years to the days of their Great Grandfather.  He operated a thriving saw mill business. They owned all of Pedley Valley, woven with little logging roads, where trees were downed and lumber cut for the Lodge and our early cabins on Palomar.

A homestead cabin for their family with six children, looked out to their pond on land now owned by the Palomar Mutual Water company. An off-grid log cabin was built half a century ago in another location.  Modern conveniences were eventually very intriguing so the Clarks purchased their ‘Bear’s Den’ up on Crestline. Oh my, electric power, water and a real phone!

Five generations have loved Palomar all these years and are passing the torch for new owners to enjoy this home in a very private setting off Crestline.  Here is a peek for you:

Oh, you might be curious about what is in the little bowl?  Arrowhead and pottery shards the seller gathered in Pedley Valley over the years and has left for you.

More details here – Come on up for your tour!

Mid Summer Night’s Dream

Would YOU like a $1.00 ticket to see Mid Summer Nights Dream! Tomorrow night dress rehearsal is open for anyone for $1.00 a seat so they have a live audience for this last time prior to opening night on Friday.

Three of the cast members are from Palomar Mountain!  Our oldest son, Brandon Phelps plays Oberon, King of the Fairies. His wife, Heidi is Titania, the Queen and head seamstress who is just finishing up very fancy, made-on-the-mountain, fabulous fairy costumes!  Our oldest granddaughter, Kiki will be wearing one in her part as Peaseblossom.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the show by 6:45 pm Thursday night. I’ll have a basket for the $1.00 donation and “…we’ll enter the enchanting land of Shakespeare as his most notorious comic romp gets dreamt up”.

Shakespeare wrote the play in 1591 with a setting in Athens, Greece.  Lucky for you, the next two weekends, the play is just down the mountain at the Community Lutheran Church Theatre.  It is located at the bottom of the Valley Center Grade and Lake Wohlford Road.

The show opens Friday and plays the next two weekends.  You can get your tickets here:  http://www.clcfamily.org/theatre or at the door.
