Eclipse and Real Estate Update

To be honest, we were pretty ho-hum about the eclipse until we were invited by mountain friends to join them on a road trip to Wyoming.  We didn’t hesitate.  We got the proper glasses, loaded up our 5th wheel and had a great time for a couple weeks.  Our next door neighbors who happen to be our oldest son, his wife and our four ‘Treasures’ cannon-balled it up for a few days and made the trip even more exciting.

We were privileged to view the eclipse from an amazing 20,000 acre ranch.  The owners had a recent family reunion with teepees and a campfire area on a plateau over-looking a river.  We got to pretend it was our very own.  The eclipse was spectacular.  Our host had a fancy camera and took the ‘wedding ring’ photo above.  I hope you can enlarge it to see the fire around the edges and the beautiful color running through.  Such a great experience!  We plan to go to the next one in 2024, too!

We sure saw some beautiful country along the way, but there is something to be said about being able to click your heals three times.  There truly is ‘no place like home’.  Our first day back, I ran around checking on listings and taking down signs as we closed a few escrows while we were gone.  Have a few more to put up now!  Took some new photos today and will at another property tomorrow, too.

Meanwhile, there are some cabins and land available to tempt you.  I showed property today out on Conifer Road and cabins on Crestline.  Yes, it is hot up here, too, but we had a great time.  So, come up for a tour and join us on this beautiful mountain!

Here is everything right now on the MLS – 10 active listings including the vacant land.  Some beautiful views!!  Four are in Pending so we have more new folks headed this way.    Click to see the choices and come up and join us!

Let’s go tour!

Palomar’s South Fire

fire

It was very impressive to see such a fast response yesterday to a fire started on the South Grade by lightening.

I was driving home through Rincon when it started raining hard for a couple minutes.  Hummm, lightening on the mountain!  When I got to 76 I glanced up to make the turn in time to see a plane drop red fire retardant. (Photo from CalFire twitter).

South and East Grades were closed so I came up Nate Harrison Grade. Quite comforting to pull in next to a big fire truck in our driveway.  The fire was below State Park Road, out on the west side of South Grade.  About the fourth parcel down the ridge from us.  A plane and helicopters did a fabulous job for hours. Dozers arrived to cut a path to help get hand crews in.  Last night CalFire, Forest Service, Sheriffs and more were staged across from our place.  One of the fire fighters fell, was injured and hard to locate in that steep canyon with radio challenges. Thankfully he was found and air-lifted out last night.

More helicopters were out first thing this morning and hand crews working.  I spoke to a CalFire guy a few minutes ago and he said crews have circled the fire to do mop up work.  They are on their way home now and our Mountain Cal Fire guys will keep a lookout tonight.  Tomorrow they’ll have more crews finish up.

Here are a few more photos for you. Thanks to Rob Hawk:

Our daughter-in-law, Heidi Phelps took these with our ‘Treasures” in tow for a very interesting Home School Day on the Mountain:

We are sure blessed on this little mountain to have the fire responded to and taken care of so quickly.  Thanks to ALL.

New Neighbors Villarreal Family

IMG_4169

A very warm welcome to Chad and Jodi and their three children Andy, Rae Rae and Tirzah.  We met during rehearsals for Annie with Tirzah in the lead roll.  Mom played Grace, the assistant to Daddy Warbucks.  So talented!  They have long-time friends up here, through their church.  They nudged them to move up and bring Chad’s experience as a sous chef to work at the Christian Conference Center. We were cheering them on.  Chad has such fond memories as a little guy, coming up to fish Doane Pond, so grew up loving this mountain.  Now the whole family feels the same way. Andy works in the city and is part time at home so that is why he is in the frame!  Rae Rae is also a performer with song and dance.  Tirzah loves to be able to have neighbor kids walking distance for play and sleepovers. Jodi home-schools the girls and teaches voice lessons!  More on that soon, meanwhile you can reach her at the cabin at 0570.  Looking forward to more sounds of music on the mountain!

cabin 1977 Richard Cardella, Crater Lake Monster  IMG_5292.JPG

Movie Night!!!  The Community Center volunteers have been hard at work getting things set up at Mother’s Kitchen for all to watch Crater Lake Monster!

Parts of the movie were filmed on Palomar!  Some right there in what is now Mother’s Kitchen! The scene above was taken in that first cabin on the left as you go up Crestline!  The color photo was taken about a year ago from about the same location.  The kitchen counter is gone now, but the fireplace is still as beautiful as ever.

7 pm at Mother’s Kitchen

Chef’s Charmer Cabin For Sale

IMG_4161

Once upon a time, a very nice couple just had to have a cabin on Palomar.  With  such an over-the-top kitchen they enjoyed their weekend getaways at the cabin so much.   After retiring, they decided to move up full time but needed a bigger cabin for family and friends to visit!  We sold their family property in Valley Center and they purchased their ‘forever home’ on Palomar and are comfortably settled close by. Now it is time to let their cabin go to a new buyer who promises to love it as much as they have.

Beautifully remodeled and sparkling clean and with some of the furnishings optional, you could move right in!  Lots more info and photos waiting for you on PalomarProperties.com where you can scroll down to see this Chef’s Charmer!

Quick, let’s go see!
