Every year we have a Labor Day Weekend get together. This year it is a picnic.  The Community Center folks are gathering up donations for silent auction/opportunity drawings.  What would you have that you could donate? Gift baskets, gift certificates, crafts, tickets to local attractions, fun things for cabins… be creative!

Jogging or power walking while picking up trash has a name!!!  Plogging apparently originated in Sweden.  It is a combination of the Swedish word for picking up – “plocka upp,” and jogging. Click to read all about Plogging.

Over the years I’ve noticed several very dedicated ‘Ploggers’ out and about on Palomar.  Thanks to those folks, Palomar is kept pretty litter-free but it keeps coming back.  Of course Monday mornings and especially after holiday and snow weekends, there is a lot more to find.  So, we could use a lot more Ploggers!!!

The finds in the photo I couldn’t resist one day when I was taking snow pix. I jumped out of my car and gathered them up from around the parking area outside the entrance to the State Park. Trash is even more noticeable on a blanket of snow and it must go away!

All Ploggers are welcome and much appreciated on this mountain!  Come on out and join in the fun.  Tuck a bag in each pocket of your jeans when you’re heading out.  You’ll be amazed how quick you can fill those bags.

Palomar Mountain Dumpster Day

The Palomar Mountain Fire Safe Council is sponsoring a defensible space “clean

up” day on Saturday, June 9th. Get rid of all that “stuff” surrounding your house

that is a fire hazard: brush, pallets, old furniture and small appliances. A large roll

off dumpster will be parked at 21610 Crestline Road, by the fire station, for

community use. The dumpster will be opened at 9:00 AM and closed at 5:00 PM or

sooner if full. Come early!

Items NOT accepted:

Tires, hazardous waste, paint, chemicals and e-waste.

This free event is made possible by the Palomar Mountain Fire Safe Council.

Donations are gladly accepted.

(Dumpster day originally planned for Memorial Day weekend but due to

unforeseen delays in obtaining the dumpster, the date has been changed.)

All kids are invited for a special gardening day this Tuesday, May 15th.

Meet at 10 am at Jody’s house. She has some fun gardening activities planned with the kids! they will get to learn what dirt is made from, too!  Yay!

Jody thinks she has enough pots for one for each child to take home.  Just in case, if any of you want to bring a couple extra, they just might get used.

Also, bring snacks to share with no nuts, please.

A charming six year old handed me this mini bouquet yesterday.  Beautiful, isn’t it?  (Thank you Kate!)  Last year we had a foot of snow on the ground this first week of May, but this year Palomar is in full bloom!

Lots of beautiful spring color to discover up here, a mile nearer heaven!  I suggested a city friend count the number of different wild flowers on her way up the South Grade.  When she arrived, she said “17”.  Yes, you can see so many flowers blooming – and more budding out very soon.  There are even more to discover when you take off on a hike and look through a child’s eyes at the tiny bursts of color carpeting this mountain.

We know Spring is on the way when the first color appears at the bottom of the grades.  The flowers bloom and the trees leaf out at the lower elevations first… in another couple days the trees at the top will be dressed in the vibrant bright green of Spring.

Come on up for the wild flower show, fresh mountain air, our beautiful views and maybe, just maybe, you’ll decide you must have a piece of paradise for your very own!

Such a beautiful time for a Real Estate Tour!  Painters were delayed by our inch of rain last week but now on the way to a home for sale so the exterior will be all fresh and new.  A 20 gallon per minute well was drilled at a cabin yesterday! We have a perk test and well cert on that beautiful Panorama Trail land, a surveyor was up marking corners at another cabin-in-the-woods …  lots of new options in the works for your summer fun so let’s go see!
