Nate’s 40 Day Challenge

nate c 2015

Many of you have met our son, Nathan.  We were having breakfast together last week and he presented us a challenge that I thought some of you might be interested in, too.

Nate reminded us that his 40th birthday is coming up in about 40 days so he challenged us to 40 Days of a Healthy Living Lifestyle:

Healthier choices in what we eat to get more fit

Moving around more with on-purpose exercise

Reaching out to friends and neighbors for casual get-togethers

We were both impressed to have his dad say he was going to accept the challenge.  (Don’t try to feed that ‘ole cowboy much sugar or carbs because he is serious-as-a-heart-attack to get back into some smaller ridin’ jeans).

We’ve mentioned this to several mountain friends who are on board.  It has been pretty interesting to see the response. They’re in!  Who else wants to join in the fun?

We met up with cabin owners Jim and Teresa McCarthy for a fun bike ride.  She shared this on her Facebook:

“Love this challenge. Our friend Nathan who is turning 40 has challenged us to a 40 day healthy living challenge. Jim and I have been making major lifestyle changes. One of the big ones is cutting out ice cream 😂. Seriously though, we have cut out so many bad eating habits. We’re ready to take another step. 10,000+ steps everyday for 40 days. Who wants to join us?”

Neighbors on Bailey Road, Ken and Lynda Ruth had already showed off their Fitbits set at 10,000 steps per day.  So, I just ordered one but now understand there are also free activity tracker aps.

What you choose to do or not do, is up to you.  However, you may see more folks out walking this beautiful mountain and having fun in the summer sun! Just know, you are welcome to join us anytime!

Happy Summer to all and look forward to seeing you soon!

  1. Message: The most beneficial thing we can do for the environment as individuals
is to adopt a Vegan diet.

For the first time in human history we now know what we should be
eating and what we should not be eating. What we should not be eating
    is what we are eating.

We could get away with the carnivorous diet in 1930 when the earth’s
population was only 2 billion. Not that there was anything good about
that diet, it has always been immoral, barbaric, and unethical, as a few
of the world’s more advanced religions have pointed out. Not withstanding
the immorality, we could get away with it in the past. But now the earth’s
population is 7.5 billion and we can no longer get away with it. Because
of the environmental destruction. The vast herds of livestock around the
world generate more greenhouse gases than even motor vehicles.

In addition to the pollution problem, there is the fact that it takes 8 times
as much land area to raise livestock, compared to producing the same
amount of food with plant crops. This is a consideration on an over-
populated planet where 45,000 people die every day from starvation
and malnutrition. And vast tracts of land could be returned to nature
    and wildlife.

There are enormous health benefits to the Vegan diet. See, for instance,
nutritionfacts.org, or read Dr. Greger’s famous book, “How Not to Die.”
It’s science, not opinion. Even the medical profession is beginning to
learn: meat consumption in the United States is down 19%.

For these reasons everyone should be a Vegan. So why aren’t you ?

    Regards
    Fred Brown

    • I’ve tried different options over the years but do my best with what I’m eating now and it fits right in with Genesis 9:3 “Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.” (New International Version)
That works for me, Fred. Thank you for your response and always enjoy seeing you ’round the mountain.

  2. Got the “STEP TRACKER app and really like it……Bob
