Holy Smokes at Midnight

Holy-fire-update-1451029

Many of us on Palomar woke up about midnight because of smoke.  I turned on the outside lights, could see smoke in the air and it was burning my eyes.  My husband’s truck was gone and our daughter-in-law’s car was in our driveway.  They were out with quite a few others checking for a live fire. They first went to the fire department but didn’t detect smoke over there at all so drove to the camp since that is where two of our granddaughters are for Horse Camp this week.  With the amount of smoke, I was expecting to see flames pretty close.  Wandering around outside in my jammies, I guessed it was smoke from the Holy Fire.

However, smoke was so strong on this side of the mountain that the fire department was called by us and quite a few others. I felt kind of bad getting them out of bed and seeing them go by as by then we’d realized it was just drifting smoke, but a lot of it.

This morning we learn that the Holy Fire went from 4000 acres to 9200 overnight so our inconvenience is nothing compared to what 20,000 people have with their evacuation orders and all they are dealing with.

I can’t help but want to get out there and do all we can to make our properties more fire safe.  I’ve been preaching for years to remove dead and dying trees.  I’ve suggested thinning to  ’80 per acre’ that forestry folks have said would maintain a healthy forest up here during times of drought.  Many areas have up 80 trees in a few square feet.  Cedars die from the bottom, up and firs from the top, down.   We need to get more guys on weed eaters and mowers (with hoses or water tenders close) and remove extra debris.

Let’s all take action on the info that everyone should have received by now via our local, friendly fire department.  They have been visiting each property with recommendations for making your property more fire safe.  We see a lot of folks cleaning up but there is still much fuel on the ground, right next to cabins.

Interested in having some locals do the work?  Our Fire Safe Council has a list of Local Resources for you.  (Would you like to add your name to the list?  Just let me know.)

Much more info heading your way, keep the date open on the 16th for a great how-to class, plus, here are some messages you might review:

Custom Home on 9 Acres Reduced

IMG_4785

It was remarkably very pleasant to walk in to this lovely home today.  We’ve had one of the hottest weeks in Palomar’s history and I thought it would be stuffy and warm.  Come experience what the very energy-efficient choices in construction materials and workmanship did for this wonderful get-away. You’ll be impressed!

Speaking with the owner tonight, he offered a price reduction as an incentive for you to come up and make it yours.  Lots more photos and info is waiting for you on my Homes page.  Let’s plan a tour!

Computer Needed

One of the gals on the mountain had her computer heat up real hot and it seems to be over for good.  She’d appreciated it so much the past couple years and very dependent on it for work and keeping in touch with family.

She asked me to put a message out to see if anyone happens to have an extra computer?  She has had some medical issues lately so going out to get a new one would be challenging.  A laptop would be appreciated because of limited space, but anything in working condition would really be appreciated.

Just let me know if you can help.

Thank you

Definition of ‘Cute’ Cabin For Sale

This very cute little cabin is just oozing with charm.  You’d never guess it had it’s beginnings 90 years ago!  During the past decade a contractor was busy with his crew for an extensive remodel.  Craftsman, with fine quality workmanship, wove in all new plumbing and electrical with a fresh, new makeover from top to bottom to take it well into 2118!

Don’t you just love those huge logs supporting the porch roof?  There is a whole lot more to love at this Definition of ‘Cute’, too!

The summer temperatures have dropped some and I have a bottomless jug of sun tea brewing these days.  Come on up for a chilled glass of tea and fun mountain tour!

Rental or RV Hookups Needed

heather

Do you have a small cabin available as a monthly rental for me and my 8 year old daughter?  What about an RV hook-up?  That could work, too.

Let me introduce myself, I am Heather Forester.  My daughter and I have been living in our 30 foot, 2004 travel trailer, in a park at the base of the mountain. Friends on the mountain have generously included my daughter for home school since March 1st.  We’d really like to continue this but I’d love to get into a small – even very rustic, fixer cabin, or move my trailer to the top of the mountain.

I’ve worked at Trader Joes since October 2015, part time and also am available for house cleaning, painting, working parties, events, home health care, animal or pet care or any house or ranch needs.

Voice or text 760-840-0154

Thank you so much!

Heather
