Escape to the very last cabin at the very east end of Crestline and Birch Hill. I’d be willing to guess most mountain folks don’t even know this cabin exists. Very hidden and tucked away on four acres of magnificent boulders with enchanting trees… Hike, bird watch, star gaze then come inside to a wonderful rebuild of a 1940 cabin-in-the-woods. Beautiful craftsmanship, pride of ownership, delightful ambiance!
But that’s not all!!! You have a total of 4 acres within 3 separate parcels. Utilities are all underground on one of the vacant lots. Easy connections to explore the idea of adding a larger cabin, building a barn or workshop, Perhaps you’d just cherish the buffer from city life? You do have all the modern comforts though; power, water, phone, internet, TV… Simply click for the MLS details and photos.
Ah, it is wonderful to live on this mountain. How about joining us in this adventure on Palomar!?!
Let’s go see!

That is the same big rock out in front of the cabin Great Grandpa built in 1921. It has been lovingly restored over the years and is absolutely oozing with cabin charm. I’ll be posting some of the wonderful history soon. It will also be so nice for the new owners. Oh, you must see this one!

Palomar cedar was milled on the mountain for this cute-as-can-be cabin in the woods. With beginnings 88 years ago, much as been done along the years to add to this cozy cabin. The present owners sanded the original floors, opened the kitchen to the living room, added new cabinets and counters.

The kitchen and master bedroom have open ceilings now, too. All windows are double pane. Within 700 square feet, there is one bedroom with a closet, and a second sleeping room the same size.

The bathroom has a vintage ball and claw foot tub. The fun little mudroom also has a washer and dryer.
And, drum roll…. this is the most level, usable lot on all of Palomar Mountain! Used as a full time home, it would also be such a easy weekend getaway to really enjoy our Four Seasons. You are set back from the road for some privacy but have 190 feet of frontage on a county plowed road!

With all that land, what would you do? There is room for a garage, barn, or perhaps an art studio? You might even check into a granny flat/guest quarters. Lots of options to explore.
One thing guaranteed: This is a delightful step-back in time, one mile nearer heaven on top of Palomar Mountain.

When there are strong Santa Ana winds, there is a possibility for SDG&E to be pro-active and shut the power off. Based on past experience, it is usually off only during day light hours. However, our power has been off for several days at a time over the past 20 years.
Glancing at the weather forecast tonight, it looks like the wind won’t be as strong as first thought.
Here is SDG&E’s public safety page that also includes a link to see maps of areas that might be off over the next few days.
It is always good to be prepared and have a generator and other supplies on hand. We do have ours running during outages and are a free wifi hotspot, too. Please message me for address. All are welcome.

The ADU event last week, sponsored by the Board of Realtors was very informative. I came home with great sources for info to share. The county office for ADU’s was there with pre-approved plans that are available at no charge, and more to come.
I arrived early so was able to get some questions answered. Even though their literature states that each unit needs to have their own septic system, they have made exceptions and have permitted tie-ins to existing systems. They also believe there will be exceptions for solar requirements where neighboring trees would limit the effectiveness of solar.
As mentioned in the last post, the Palomar Mutual Water Co isn’t set up for additional dwellings to be added to properties with a water share. However, many of you have your own well or live in the cities where most cities are encouraging more housing. I believe adding even a small ‘tiny house’ or up to 1200 square feet guest house/granny flat, is the single most important thing you could do to add value to your land.
Click for a great article with lots of resources.
Of course, I’m glad to get your questions answered any time.

This is the last free dumpster day for the fall! Load up and get there early!
The big 40 yard dumpster will be placed at the fire station on the 5th of October. It will be open for your donations of combustible trash, small appliances, etc on the 5th (Saturday) and 6th (Sunday) if there is still room. Generally the box is full by about noon on Saturday, so come early. We will not accept tires, paint, HazMat, Large appliances, chemicals.
You access the dumpster from Summit Circle. That is the road to the west, or left side of the FD. Dumpster hours are 9 to 1 on Saturday and 1 to 5 on Sunday, pending space in the dumpster. It can fill up quick.
This is a free service but donations are welcomed.

The last time a group of us went to see the Smith Mountain Boys, there was a special surprise. You see, it was Glenn and Cecelia’s Wedding Anniversary! Half way through the concert, Cecelia joined the band and surprised Glenn by singing the sweetest love song. Awe…. so beautiful. So, it was a very happy Anniversary for a favorite couple on this mountain! And, today is Cecelia’s Birthday, imagine that!
Cecelia’s song to Glenn:
Like a candle burning bright,
Love is glowing in your eyes.
A flame to light our way,
That burns brighter every day.
Now I have you.
And nobody loves me like you do
Like a leaf upon the wind,
I could find no place to land.
I dreamed the hours away,
And wondered every day,
Do dreams come true?
Nobody loves me like you do.
What if I’d never met you?
Where would I be right now?
Funny how life just falls in place somehow.
You touched my heart in places,
That I never even knew.
Nobody loves me like you do.
I was words without a tune.
I was a song still unsung.
A poem with no rhyme.
A dancer out of time.
But now there’s you.
Nobody loves me like you do.
What if I’d never met you?
Where would I be right now?
Funny how life just falls in place somehow.
You touched my heart in places,
That I never even knew.
Nobody loves me,
Nobody loves me,
Nobody loves me like you do.
Nobody loves me like you do.
You just never know what fun you’ll encounter as a band-fan. Click for their schedule.

Finally!!!
Often new listings take very little staging or prep to get the photos taken and put on the market. Not the past few months! This is one of those times I spend much longer assisting to get things ready before my sign goes up than after. Currently properties are finishing up getting groomed for Cal Fire and Forestry safety requirements, but most important so buyers can get and keep insurance. The contractor, painters, roofers, handymen, are almost done at some new listings. Sellers are about ready getting some things taken care of so we have a few more cabins ready for your viewing pleasure! Running out to put up more signs for some photos today so stay tuned!
Meanwhile, it has been a busy week with showings back-to-back and two offers. We have such a low inventory and more and more full timers are dreaming of making Palomar their home. We could use some properties with more bedrooms. Some of the folks are ok with a fixer (depends on their terms as some lenders have stiffer requirements) but some are looking to move right in. Always, little cabins are in demand for weekend getaways. This is the perfect time to market and show so the new buyers can be in when the snow is falling.
Glad to get your questions answered anytime. New listings heading your way soon!
