Photo Tour of Boucher Lookout as it is today! Stay tuned!

Brad Ells was very involved with his kids playing sports on weekends.  When that ended, he needed a new project.  Brad and his wife Tami came up to Palomar one day and visited the Observatory.  Looking out from the parking lot he happened to see the old High Point Lookout and inquired about it.  That was the beginning of what is now a newly refurbished High Point Lookout.

He has now volunteered to work toward preserving and restoring Boucher as a fire Lookout once again.  Where is Boucher?  You go through the State Park and it is up on the left looking out across the entire county.  When Brad and his wife Tami were up a while back, we got to go see their first accomplishments and that fabulous view!  Click for a photo tour and THANKS BRAD for all you have done and are doing for our favorite mountain!   It will be great to hear of your progress!

Panorama at Boucher on the way by Ernie Cowan

Had a fun phone call a couple of months ago from Michael Rogers with the State Park down in Borrego.  He explained that they had commissioned Ernie Cowan to take a panorama for an Interpretive Board outside Boucher Lookout.  He asked me to call when it looked like it was going to be clear about 9 am or so for Ernie to come up for the photos.  I can often see the Carlsbad power plant from my desk but was watching to see the islands out there too.  Finally a few weeks ago when we had those strong winds, I gave Michael a call.  Ernie and Katie came up on a perfect day.  I followed them out to get pictures of the photographer to share with you about this nice addition heading our way.  Katie called tonight and mentioned that they had come up for another photo shoot so I asked her to write-up a little about their project.

We’ll let you know when it is ready to enjoy!  Bonnie Phelps

From: Katalin Cowan kt2c@packtrain.com
At the request of the State Park we have spent a couple of days at Boucher Lookout trying to capture one of those transparent days.  The goal is to create a panoramic photograph that will be used for a display at the new overlook platform.  The display will mark visual points of interest so visitors will be able to identify the things they can see from this breathtaking vantage point.  While Ernie was involved in the technical concentration of capturing the multi-image panorama, Kati was wandering in the woods communing with nature capturing some of the early spring beauty.   All the best, Kati Cowan

Free Garden Water Fountain

This went quick!  Still looking for someone who would like the free stove: https://palomarmountainnews.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/free-gas-stove/

Like a water fountain?  The owners of one of our listings are letting this go for free.  Might not be as terrific with our Mountain snow but thinking someone might want to pick this up for your home in the city?   It presently does not have the electrical run to the system but was working when electrical was operational.  May need a new pump?  You’ll need a couple strong guys and can pick it up in Escondido.   Simply call and I’ll head you in the right direction.  Bonnie Phelps 760 742-1742

Free Gas Stove

This Kenmore stove with the owner’s manuel on a shelf in the oven is waiting outside a cabin on Palomar Mountain for a new owner to claim…  Whoever calls me first gets the directions to pick it up and the free stove.   Such a deal!  Going, going, going….

Daffodils and Storm on the way!

It is such a beautiful sunny day today, kinda hard to believe snow is to be heading our way

A few days ago I had a fun message from a neighbor with lots of daffodils.  She invited me to stop by for a big bouquet. (That was very nice!  They are georgous!)  When a storm is predicted, she picks the flowers enjoy indoors instead of just letting them get trampled with the rain and snow.  Great idea!

I also learned that daffodils bloom at different times.  Some on the Mountain have been beautiful for a couple of weeks.  Ours are just starting to come up.  But what we have, I’ll pick first thing in the morning  and look forward to planting some ‘early bloomers’ next winter.

We often have snow on the ground for Easter week.  Enjoy and may you have a very Happy Easter.

Dutch playin’ and singin’ today at Country Trader

Every once in a while Palomar Mountain’s Cowboy extraordinaire, Dutch Bergman gets down off his horse and picks up his guitar.  When you are lucky enough to be within hearing distance, you are lucky enough.  Today he’ll be at the Country Trader playin’ and singin’ from 12:30 to 2:30 and you’re invited.

Country Trader Coffee House on Valley Center Road in Valley Center 12:30 to 2:30

Going down the mountain you pass Fat Ivors, and Powerland (the tractor place), Country Junction is pretty quick on the right before you get to the big new gas station.

Think you’ll enjoy his music page.  His family is one of the founders of Palomar. One Great, Great Grandfather (think I have that right) owned 12,000 acres in the area so you can read some of the family history.  He is a song writer too so you’ll also see the words to a favorite song of many Palomar folks at: http://www.mypalomarmountain.com/dutchbergman

You might also enjoy visiting his website for the Ranch.  Lots of “eye candy” there with info about their Film Locations, Cattle Drives, Grass Fed Beef, Wedding and Event locations available, and more at:  http://www.palomarmountainranch.info

And, believe it or not, you’ll also find Dutch Bergman on Facebook.  Let’s see, a guitar singin’ cowboy . . . online???   Yep!
