Pot O’Gold at the end of the Dinner!

The Community of Palomar came through again!  Earl’s vision and putting his dream of a community center into action really came true.  The Celebration for the Grand Opening was a tremendous success.  And, like they say, behind every great man is a great woman so many thanks to Lousie too for supporting Earl and his Team in transforming a very tired old cabin into a sparkling Community Center.   Click for a quick slide show and keep reading for Tracey’s report.  Bonnie Phelps

PALOMAR COMMUNITY HITS A HOME RUN!! WOW! The tally is in for the St Paddy’s Day Dinner & Auction Fundraiser.  $5,060.00 raised by the Community!  We not only covered the cost of the beautiful new furniture, but we managed to raise over and above our target. The extra we raised will go a long way to contributing to future running costs.  A big thank you to all the volunteers, community members, neigbors and friends who rallied together to make our fundraiser such a huge success. More photos coming soon.  Tracey Chesney

Everyone is welcome to come join in on the fun Saturday Night.

Books, movies and MUCH more for you – and your pooch!

Like to curl up with a great book? Or, have a movie night at your cabin?  How about learning a new language or listening to a book-on-tape for your commute?  FREE check out!  Keep reading and thanks to Deborah Goycochea, Bailey Meadow resident for passing this on.   Bonnie Phelps

The Valley Center Library, which is a part San Diego County Library (SDCL) system, is really an amazing resource.  In addition to loaning books, the library is a fabulous source of FREE DVDs and other materials!  Some of the items they have include:  books on tape, large print books;  language instruction CDs;  test prep materials (SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, etc.), magazines; exercise DVDs; game cartridges (Wii); movies (DVD & VHS); and computer usage and internet connection.  Free wireless is available if you bring your own laptop.

And, for those of you who are unaware, you can request and reserve materials from any branch within the system, so if you cannot find what you want within its walls, don’t worry.  On the other hand, if you need research materials and the library doesn’t have the resource, you can get an inter-library through some of the local universities as well.  Everything can be arranged either by phone or through their website.

The Valley Center library is an environment that has friendly, knowledgeable staff and (if you didn’t know), it is dog-friendly.  If your dog is leashed, he/she can enter the library with you, and the Head Librarian, Sandy, has a ready supply of milkbones to greet your pooch!

The Valley Center library is a community center as well, so do pick up their calendar.  Free concerts, yoga lessons, English instruction, Wii playing and children’s crafts are some of the activities that occur during the month.
