“Palomar Praise and Worship” Sunday Night – location change

Celebrate the New Year!   “Palomar Praise & Worship” is the first Sunday night of each month and everyone is welcome!

Click for more photos from the first event in November.  Play along with your guitar, viola, autoharp, harmonica or whatever!  We sing popular contemporary worship songs from today and the past, along with hymns of the faith, interspersed with prayer and Bible reading.

Location change: More rain/snow is promised for Sunday, so we will meet where we have easy access and plenty of parking for all at the Phelps’ Square House, Upstairs Apartment.   Directions:  From Mothers Kitchen and The Store, take State Park Road just over a mile. On the left are the big metal buildings of the County Road Station.  On the right is a 25 MPH sign.  Turn right at that sign, into the driveway.  Plenty of parking in rain or snow.  Walk to the left of the garage to take the outside stairs.   760 742-1742

Hope you can join us and a blessed New Year to all!

Game Night too on New Years Eve

We just can’t leave you out there in the cold after the State Park Sunset Hike!  You’re invited to come by for Game Night!  We’re promised colder weather and Sharon Bergman had a great idea!  Let’s have a potluck of crock pots and kettles of soup.  We’ll warm up and then have some old fashioned, mountain fun with Dominos, Boggle, or whatever YOUR favorites are.

WHERE: Nate’s Place – the apartment/now game room above the garage at our “Square House” on State Park Road.  Six tables ready to go!  (Please email or call for directions).

WHAT TO BRING:  1. Your favorite soup, cornbread, rolls, appetizers or dessert.  You are welcome to drop them by before the hike.  Take the stairs to the left of the garage.  Plug in your crock pot or put whatever in the fridge or the oven – someone will be there to help (and sample the goods!).

2. Your favorite game if you’d like.  We’ll have a few out also.  You can come to play or just relax and warm up by the fire.

WHEN:  Anytime after 4:00 on Friday night.  Those brave hikers that would like to join us will show up maybe around 5:30 pm or so.

Join us at the Sunset Hike, or Game Night, or BOTH!

Happy New Year!

State Park Sunset Hike New Years Eve

Watch the sun set on 2010 from Palomar Mountain!  Another fun mountain event is coming your way New Years Eve.  Julie McEntee called with a great idea and YOU are invited.  Here is the scoop:

4:15 Friday Night – Meet just OUTSIDE the State Park entrance. Park in area of photo, on the right side of the road, at no charge.  If you’re a little late and we’ve already started the hike, simply walk across State Park Road, to the south of the big sign, and you’ll be at the entrance to the Silvercrest Trail – and catch up!

We’ll walk the trail, which is very easy hike, along the ridge with a great sunset view to watch the sun go down on 2010.   Sunset is to be at 4:42.  Then loop back through the parking lot (when you drive in, this lot is past entrance on the left),  past the State Park office entrance, and back to our cars.  (If you’d rather park in the parking lot inside the State Park, there is an $8.00 charge.)  That loop-hike is about a mile and a half.

Bring family, friends, and flashlights!

Merry Christmas!

Are you one of those people who dream every year of a White Christmas?  Our phone has rung many times over the past few days with folks asking, “Is there snow on Palomar?”  We can only imagine if this past weekend’s 18.8 inches of rain at our place, had been SNOW!  Woo Hoo!  Our son, Nathan took the pic after our first dusting a month ago. Looking forward to see what kind of weather we will enjoy up here a mile nearer heaven in 2011!

If you aren’t part of the now 26 million + people who have viewed my favorite “Christmas Card” of the year, click to see and sing along!

We wish you a Blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Look who came to dinner!

Mike’s Elk was hangin’ around all dressed for the party!  We all had another delightful evening on the Mountain at the Christmas Progressive Dinner!  Many thanks to our hosts, Earl and Louise Walls, Mike and Sue Stevens, and everyone who brought their favorite holiday appetizers, soup, and absolutely yummy desserts.  A wonderful evening was topped off with Christmas carols around the fire at the historic Lodge.  Click to see all the photos.

Christmas Caroling was sooooo FUN!

We had such a fun time Christmas Caroling Dec. 12th.  Very glad it was warm and dry!  Sorry if we didn’t get to your home – lotsa lights were on along the way and we quickly ended up with horse voices (from singing in the horse trailer?!?).  Great to be able to use the Lodge to warm up by the fire and enjoy some mountain goodies!  Click to see all the pix.
