Winter Night – a Palomar Poem

Winter Night- Palomar Mountain

by Kathy Lundy Derengowski   1/1/11

The mountain night is clear and cold

While we lie safe in bed

The owl calls his song of old

The coyote’s eyes glow red.

The deer seek shelter from the chill

   A fast approaching storm

The snow blows on the window sill

   While we, inside, are warm.

The moonlight shimmers on the ground

 A blanket white and pure

The stars keep their appointed rounds

As we sleep safe and sure.

The darkness has a rhythm sweet

    The winter is a poem

   And Palomar’s a song complete

   Our precious mountain home.

Enjoy the beautiful winter,

Love, Kathy

New Weather Station – Birch Hill/Crestline

We woke to a dusting of patchy snow at our place on State Park Road this morning.  I looked out our window and saw our big thermometer in the high 50’s.  The house was nice and toasty so I didn’t think anything about it.  Then I saw a post from Ken Easton on Facebook.  He said it was 18 degrees.  I thought he must be vacationing somewhere else until I went outside!  Burrrr!

We need a new thermometer and thanks to Ken and Michelle for posting their weather station link just in time!  Wow!  It is now up to 22 degrees!
