Fresh Tomatoes?

From: Cecelia

Would you like some great, fresh tomatoes? I got a call about heritage tomatoes (Brandywine) that are available from Jenny Higgins in 10 lb boxes for $10/box. She and her dad have grown them in Highland Valley for several years; I have bought many boxes and they’ve always been very nice tomatoes.

If you’d like some of this year’s crop, call Jenny at 76O 445-OO56.

See info below from Suzann.  I just spoke to the Palomar FD and they already put this one out.  Great job everyone!  Bonnie

Subject: Brush Fire North of Palomar Again.

There is a fire in the general area of the blue dot on the map. Near the intersection of Palomar Divide and High Point Rd.

One of the Palomar Mtn Fire Dept water tenders was sent to support it.

This is on Federal land so will have the US Forest Service in charge of it.

We will keep you posted as we know more.

Fire Update Mtg Sunday Afternoon

60 inch

There has been NO SMOKE on Palomar that we could see from our place today but the fire is apparently still going on the north side of the mountain, way down below the Observatory.  This photo was taken from Canfield Road last night about 7 pm with the sun shining on the 60 inch Observatory.

It was so impressive to see the planes in the air, and all the crews responding to work the fire last night.  We heard plans circling over our house at midnight when we finally turned out the lights knowing we were in good hands.  Thanks to ALL!

The wind has pushed the smoke east so we don’t see it up here now.  However, it apparently is still going. Here is a post about a meeting tomorrow, open to everyonel:

From: Suzann M. Leininger

The Federal Incident Management team, that is managing the Cutca fire on the North side of Palomar, wants to have a community meeting tomorrow, Sunday afternoon.

It will be at the Palomar Mountain Fire Station at 3:30 pm.

So far, the containment line is holding.

Thanks, Suzann

Palomar Fire History Link back to 1917

Thanks to Peter for this cool info and link!

From: Peter

Some may be interested or curious about Palomar Mountain fire history. Connect to http://databasin.org/maps/new#datasets=bf8db57ee6e0420c8ecce3c6395aceeb

Pan and zoom in on Palomar Mtn. The orange areas are a composite of mapped fires in this dataset, and one will see the extensive fire footprint on Palomar Mtn over time. Click on the ‘i within a circle’ button up top, move the cursor to a specific location and click on it.

A window opens leading one to the fire records for that specific location. Click into a fire record and a yellow overlay shows the extent of that specific mapped fire. This resource says it goes back to 1950 fire maps but for Palomar Mtn, I see fires mapped back to 1917 [at least].

Inch plus of rain – Conserve when you can!

water conservation

We are so thankful for this beautiful rain today. Our gauge showed just over an inch on State Park Road. That is wonderful, but our mountain is still very thirsty.  Going up Crestline, we see this reminder.  (Double click to enlarge photo). I just googled ‘Water conservation tips’ and over 11 million links with lots of ideas came up.

Just a friendly reminder to conserve when you can.  Our little mountain needs every drop!  🙂

Thanks to all – 6 trees under control!

1 2 4

Wes Ruise said six trees were struck by lightening today during our storm.  Don and I were out tonight and saw quite a few hard-working folks coming in from falling trees and putting out the fires.  Those hand crews don’t look like they plan on popping by the gym tonight!

Everyone’s dedication and commitment is appreciated!
