Fire Board Elections

Nominations are open for the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors.  Nominees must be either a Palomar Mountain resident or a Palomar Mountain property owner.

Two positions on the PMVFD Board of Directors are open.  Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, September 6, 2015.  The meeting begins at 12:00 noon.

Directors serve two-year terms.  Board meetings are held monthly at the fire station, usually on the first Saturday of each month.

The Forest Fire Lookout Association is looking for volunteers to help them staff High Point fire lookout tower on Palomar Mountain.  We would like to train about 12-15 new lookouts to assist in our mission of early fire detection for Palomar Mountain and North County.  If you would be interested, please contact Scott McClintock at palomartowers@gmail.com. We have another Bonnie on the Mountain!  Nick and Bonnie Spear purchased a home out on Birch Hill and are living full time on Palomar.  Bonnie is one of the smiling faces you see in the State Park these days.  Please see her request below for us to participate in her survey.  I just clicked through it and hope she has a great response from you subscribers.  Let’s all contribute our part to help her get an “A+”!

I’m currently enrolled in a Masters Degree program. As part of one of my courses, I have to create and distribute a survey. I’ve created an online survey with the goal of determining what conservation issues are important to residents of Palomar Mountain, and I’m hoping I can piggyback on the knowledge of the residents of Palomar hoping lots of people participate.  Click for the Survey link.

She’s really cleaning up the neighborhoods on Crestline!  Brooke’s first donation from Palomar, she named “Lemon Squeeze”.  This little trailer that has seen much better days has that yellow stripe, and they had to squeeze her through a couple cedar trees to get her out!  One day of elbow grease and Brooke had her latest project nice and clean and looking pretty cute for her make-over (Double-click on photos to enlarge):

 Thanks to David Drake for donating this little gem-in-hiding from behind Oliver Brown’s cabin.

 Also, many thanks to Tracy Chesney for donating her pop up that didn’t survive the surprise New Years snow.  Brooke and Family were thrilled to haul it off and discover the little stove and sink that can be re-purposed in Lemon Squeeze – then recycle the rest.

Two more donations are coming Brooke’s way when the owners return in the fall from vacation.  Meanwhile, do you know of a tired trailer needing love?  Brooke and Family weekend on the mountain but live in Marietta area so perhaps you know of something off the mountain too?!  All proceeds go to her college fund and are much appreciated!

 We will soon see new signs on Highway 76 near Lake Henshaw honoring Joel Mendenhall. Yesterday, our California State Assembly Member, Marie Waldron presented ACR 4 with Senate Amendments on the Assembly Floor in Sacramento where it passed 78-0 in honor of Joel Mendenhall.

It has been nice to be out ’round the mountain today, seeing extra cars in driveways of family and friends celebrating the birth of our nation.

Recently this music video came my way.  I see it was aired the year I graduated from high school.  That was a very long time ago, but from our house to yours, the message is the same.

We’re celebrating the freedoms we still enjoy in this country and may God Bless America!
