Swim with the Otters!?!

otters.jpg

A request came in from a guest booking Cabin Fever.  She said they were flying out from Minnesota to “swim with the otters”.  I thought it was a typo.  I didn’t know anything about being able to swim with otters in Valley Center.  So, I googled it.  Sure enough, right down the road in Valley Center at Nurtured by Nature, you can

Dig with the armadillos,
Hop with the kangaroo,
Hang out with the sloth,
Cuddle with the porcupine,
And swim with the otters!

They have a pretty interesting website and have also been a been a part of making dreams come true through the Make a Wish Foundation.  Fascinating way to give back and provide a really unique experience with animals.

Another fun thing to add to my bucket list!  How about YOU?

Must be Spring!

dafs 2016

Driving by the Summit way too fast the other day, I had to turn around and get this pic for you.  Daffodils in February!   ‘Spose to have a tease of snow Sunday or Monday – but not too promising! We’ll welcome that rain, too!

The Summit?  Oh, back in the days when owned by Wayne and Shirley Thompson, it was called “Thompson’s Summit Grove”.  The word ‘Summit’ went back to the late 1930’s/early 40’s when the South Grade was being built and East Grade was punched through to the top.  About the time Crestline was extended from the Lodge, down to where the FD is now.  It was all about those roads meeting up at “The Summit”.

Think you’ll find most of the ‘old timers’ refer to our little town, Mother’s Kitchen, the General Store and one of the smallest Post Offices in the country, The Summit.

On my way out to pick a nice bouquet for those escrow gals working overtime for Palomar these days!  Happy day everyone!

Bringing in the Big Guns!

pushing tree   nick

Look what was blocking the road!  Driving through the 68 acres for sale on Canfield, we came to a bit of a road block.

Mom wrote in my baby book the first sentence I ever said: “Bonnie do it”.   (Yes, I realize that does not come as a surprise to some of you).  Well, this time, I found out pretty quick that I needed to call in reinforcements.

Time for the big guns!  Nick-the-Logger is back with saws, an excavator,  masticator and all sorts of great equipment to get the job done.  He offers complimentary ‘Forestry Health and Fire-Safe evaluations’ to see if his services can benefit your property.

Nick invites you to stop by the job site this week to see the property grooming in action.  Or, call for more info:  Carmel Valley Contractors, Forestry Division 760 742-8745.  Licensed and insured.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Nick and crew, will be on Canfield Road.  Go past the Post Office. The first driveway on the left takes you up to the land. There is quite a bit of frontage to that property, between the two sets of yellow flags, tied on tree branches on the left. They might also be a ways down the road on Canfield.  Look for the dust!

Meanwhile, we are looking for new owners for this land!  The next owner will get a very nicely groomed property, ready to build out your dream.  Will that be YOU?  Before and After pix real soon!

Another fun week ahead on the Mountain!

Fire Department history buff?

fd druliner

One of our first volunteer fire captains, Bruce Druliner, dropped off a box that might have an interest to some history buffs out there.  The records go back to 1975.  It was fun to browse through and run across First Aid and CPR classes that I attended back in those early days (yes, I was old enough to take a CPR class, but thank you!).

I especially enjoyed a handwritten flyer by Bruce:

Howdy!

So you wanna be a volunteer?  If you are interested in joining the PMVFD, there are two capacities in which you may serve.  As an Auxiliary Member  … or want more action? Then you may wanna be Firefighter! …

Wonder how many volunteers we had over the years… and how many pies were baked?!???

Ok, who would like these records?   Just let me know.

Bonnie

New Weather Link

The newest weather link on the mountain is up in the clear, out on the west side of Palomar. Located at over 5000 feet elevation, it should give us a pretty good reading next time we have those strong winds:

Tree House Views Reduced

IMG_1637   IMG_1641

Seller said, “Bring us an offer!”  It was so beautiful during a recent snow!  Wouldn’t you love this view?

When the Union Tribune reporter got here last week, he said he needed to have the story include all real estate on Palomar.  That worked for me.  I took him by my listings and this one was mentioned.  When I asked the sellers if they had a name for their cabin, they said it was ‘like living in a tree house with views from every window’.
