Just minutes away but look Vandenberg direction and you just may see it! Mike scoped it our from this look-out yesterday so if the launch is to be seen, this is where to see it.
Subject: I’m going to try watching the Space-X launch from State Park Road
Vandenberg is 200 miles away and the air is hazy … but if I’m not watching, I’m sure to miss it! The launch is scheduled for just after 1:25 PM today (Sunday).
It will be live-streamed, including the attempted landing back on the barge “Just Read the Instructions” starting about 2:10. Here is a link: https://spaceflightnow.com/2017/06/24/iridium-next-mission-2-mission-status-center/
I’ll be on State Park Road, across from Fern Meadow Road, at the turnoff at the Maintenance Yard with binoculars.
By the way, the fire across the ridge to the southeast, south of Mesa Grande, is already being hit with fire suppression aircraft – I see two dropping and one spotting.

The Dunbar Brothers & Son – Big Jim, Tom and Danny stopped by with a wallet they found coming up Nate Harrison Grade. Full of credit cards, a driver’s license, cash, family photos… We did some sleuth work and found a sister-in-law on line then finally got a call from the owner. He said, “if you have my wallet, I’m the luckiest guy in the world”. He was up here pretty quick from the coast.
He never thought he’d see his wallet again and was facing cancelling all his charge cards, getting a new license and all the rest. He said the Dunbars restored his faith in humanity.
I told him most all the folks on Palomar would have done the same thing.
This mountain is pretty special that way.

Many of you remember Greg and Kelly Stuever who had a little cabin out on Birch Hill. Greg has started a new career as a Gun Smith as retirement rolls around. If you or someone you know needs his services, he is a quick call away.

Wow! We were impressed to see the fine job the chippers did yesterday. They chipped many piles we’d prepared of downed branches from that May storm.
The chipping crew were a pleasure to deal with. As they worked, they often moved the shoot that sprays the chips. That way, the chips sprayed out as ground cover so no chip piles were left to deal with. We had a few logs by the piles we’d planned to cut for firewood. At the end of the day, they were bucked up and ready to dry for firewood next year.
We still have lots more clean up to do. The chipping crew told us to get the piles ready, go on line, re-register, and they will be back.

Do YOU have clean-up to do? There is still time to get in on the free chipping grant as long as the funds last.
Mountain locals are available to do the ground work.
Also, there is DEAD TREE REMOVAL, 50% share of cost PREP WORK available to improve 100 feet of defensible space around your Palomar Mountain home. Keep reading…
