Alerts, High Wind and Internet Hot Spot

Property owners signed up for the Reverse 911 Alerts have had phone calls and emails from SDG&E about possibly having the power out relating to the High Wind Warnings.  So far our power has been on as winds don’t seem as strong as earlier predicted.

What the messages did also mention was that SDG&E had a couple locations far, far, away for internet hot spots and charging stations.

When power is out, our generator is humming and we have a free hot spot here for you with patio outlets for charging.  Drive in our driveway and check out ‘Palomar Friend’.  No password needed and we are real close by at the top of the mountain.  It is not uncommon to come home and see someone sitting at our patio table checking their messages.  You are welcome, too.  If you don’t know where we live, please message me and I’ll provide directions.

You own or rent property up here and didn’t get the Alerts?  It is simple and no charge to sign up for Alert San Diego.  Be sure to sign up for the alerts for each address you own for Alerts specific to each area.

Reflective House Number Signs – Get Yours Now

From: Bill Leininger, CERT

PMFD CERT is now taking orders for the highly reflective house number signs that you’ve seen around the mountain. These signs make it much easier for the Palomar Mountain Fire Dept to find your house, when seconds count in an emergency. The signs are 12 x 6 inches in size, made of aluminum, and come in two colors – Blue or Green.

BLUE signs mean you have an accessible water tank on your property that the Fire Dept can use to refill the water tanks on their vehicles, so they don’t have to travel back to the station to refill during a fire. Much better for you and them if they can stay on site to keep a fire from burning down your house.

GREEN signs means you do not have an accessible water tank on site. But, the sign is still just as visible and important to the Fire Department.

PRICE for each sign – $15 (payable when you get the sign) Manufacturer estimates approx 2 week turnaround once we place the order.

To place your order:

E-mail me at – Palomar.Mountain.CERT@gmail.com – with:

your name, house number, sign color (blue or green), phone number, and e-mail

I’ll also be at the station this Saturday (27 Jan) from 9-11, and Sat, 03 Feb, from 9-11 for the PMFD Board Mtg.

DEADLINE for orders – Thursday, 08 Feb (2 weeks).

Thank you,

Bill Leininger

Sunny A-Frame

IMG_6374

This sunny A-Frame (waiting for the first snow) sure looks inviting!  It is a brand new listing I’ve had in my pocket while sipping on ginger and lemon tea nursing the flu bug.  I’d taken a client in Cabin Fever for remodeling ideas. He loved it and asked me to find him one with lots of cabin woodsy charm.

A few days later I got a call about this newest listing.  I knew whose name was on it!  He braved my bug to take a look and … ta da!  (Very sorry for all of you waiting for a cabin of your very own!)  This newest listing on Palomar is already spoken for!  Lots more photos at http://www.palomarproperties.com/cabins

I’ll be taking photos tomorrow of 34 acres coming up.  Lots of adventure, heavily forested with a meadow view…  stay tuned!  Meanwhile, sure could use some new listings up here!  Buyers are lined up for cabins, homes, ranches, lots and land. Let’s connect and I’ll get your questions answered.

No more flu bug germs, I promise!  Hope you all escaped and let’s have lots of fun dreaming of our first SNOW.

No Snow on Palomar

High Point Jan 2018

For all the city folks looking to make a snowman or for a sled run, we got almost a half inch of rain last night but no white stuff for play.

The beautiful photo above was taken from High Point Lookout.  Thanks to Robert for sharing!  Guessing that snow is melted by now with our sunny sky but if you ever want to hike to High Point, the access is from the back side of the mountain in Warner Springs:  http://hikingsdcounty.com/oak-grove-high-point-palomar/

It’s a trifle but it is snow!

Palomar’s Rain

IMG_6455

So nice to see our gauge this morning at just over 7 inches!  The rainfall really varies on other areas of the mountain. Little jealous since I saw the Observatory got a little dusting of that beautiful white stuff!

Don’t see any puddles down in our orchard so this mountain is really soaking it up!

Now we just need to get to the cleanup!  Just saw one of our wonderful County Road Station guys go past with a blade on his truck.  Heard there are rocks on the grades and guessing there is debris to clear off the road if they look anything like our driveway.

Enjoy your outside winter fun!

It Happened!!!

DualImage

First rain since May 8th’s foot of snow, nine months ago today!

As most of you know, those snowflakes come and go on the forecast.  Even a dusting would be pretty exciting for kids I know of all ages at our place!

Here is what is promised with some wind over the next few days. We have only about a half inch so far but enjoying every drop.

Singin’ and Dancin’ in the Rain!

Winter Wonderland from Kenny Sellers

Ken Sellers Family

Ken and Maggie Sellers have enjoyed their land out on Panorama Trail for 18 years.  This is their family with two sons and a daughter last Christmas.  Now the Sellers are selling!  We met up with them and their buyers right before Christmas and have escrow open.  He gave us each a CD of beautiful Christmas songs he has recorded.  Ken has such a smooth, rich voice!  I’ve nudged him for years to make his CD’s available, so Ken gave me the liberty to share this link with you Mountain News Subscribers.

He has CDs of his Christmas Album, Patriotic Songs, Love Songs and Oldies. We should have a concert!

Welcome New Neighbor Terry Barbee

IMG_6353

When Terry was 5 years old, his family had a weekend rancho in Pauma Valley.  Over 20 year, has many happy memories of growing up out on the property and coming up to Palomar for snow.  During his late teens he became intrigued with mathematics and the Observatories. It was only natural for him to desire a cabin on the mountain.

Actively looking for a few years, he found the perfect getaway.  It is freshly painted and he is having new flooring installed.  Today a bentwood rocker will be his first furniture addition. Before buying a cabin, he had his fishing reels rebuilt so is looking forward to having his son, Christopher, up for hiking, fishing and visiting the telescope.

Terry has a Phd in mathematics and just authored his first book.  Designed for sophomore and junior level college students, or anyone interested in higher mathematics, Classical Ordinary Differential Equations with Numerical Examples should be up on Amazon in a week or so.

Glad to be a part in helping Terry make his dream come true!
