Kym has her new home! Finally!

Kym has been very patient to finally get escrow closed and be our newest home owner on Palomar.  When I went to pick up the sign she said, “Oh, can you please leave it up a couple more days?!  I love coming home and seeing it SOLD!”  Instead of just driving by on her way home to where she was renting, she now gets to pull in and can click her heals together three times… there is no place like home!

Thinking of buying?  Wondering about the value of  your home, cabin, ranch, or land?  I’m a click or phone call away and glad to get your questions answered.

Look who made the front page!

Palomar resident, David Ross is the editor of the Valley Center Road Runner.  Great local paper.  Each week a subscribers name is on the front page.  This week it is a favorite neighbor out on Birch Hill, Bruce Graves!

You’ll often see articles about Palomar and David writes a great editorial column.  Maybe it is time he re-ran his Mountain Man article!  The cartoonist is also a Palomar resident.

Want your own paper?  You can pick it up in front of the Post Office or have it mailed   www.valleycenter.com  David just told me that this weeks paper will have some great snow photos!

Tourist looking for Snow? Observatory closed on Snow Days.

Chains are required and apparently tow trucks will be working the mountain this weekend ticketing and towing vehicles parked in the road, double parked, or parked on private property.

You are welcome at the Summit where there is our General Store and Mother’s Kitchen Restaurant but very limited parking on snow days.

The Observatory is closed this weekend and Canfield Road, the road to the Observatory is closed, so Residents Only may drive past the Summit.  The two housing areas, Bailey and Crestline Road, are also closed to Residents Only.  So that leaves very little parking options on Palomar without a risk of being towed.

The group campground at the top of the Mountain is open but actually a pretty small area surrounded by private property.  Please respect the private property signs posted throughout the mountain.  The State Park is closed except for the Silvercrest picnic area to the left  just past the entrance.

Julian has a lot more options for parking, going inside a business to get warm and having a bite to eat after snow fun.   Palomar is a small community also lacking public restrooms or trash cans.  If you do come, it is very much appreciated that you take your trash back with you to keep the mountain scenery beautiful for the next folks to enjoy.

Please respect private property and treat the property as you would want the Mountain folks to treat yours.  Your consideration is sincerely appreciated by the folks who call Palomar Mountain their home.

Sunday Church Service & Potluck – location change

From: Pete Weisel – Palomar Mountain Community Church

 Hello to all,

Due to the recent snowfall on the mountain, the Palomar Mountain Observatory grounds will be closed this weekend. We will still gather to worship together our Lord and Savior at 10 AM Sunday, but will meet at the guest apartment, above the garage at the Phelps’ home on State Park Rd.

From the Summit, take State Park Road just over a mile.  You will see the big metal buildings of the County Road Station on the left.  Their home is located directly across the street on the right.  There will be plenty of freshly plowed parking available – come early for coffee and hot chocolate.  A “Potluck” will follow the service.  Please bring your favorite dish to share.  Paper goods and beverages  provided.

Any questions? Call Pete Weisel @ 760-224-7078 or the Phelps home @ 760-742-1742

If you think of anyone who does not have email, please pass this notice around by phone, telegraph, smoke signal, text message, pony express or carrier pigeon, (local & international rates may apply).

Road Conditions – parts of 76 closed

See:   http://www.caltrans.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi  and type in Hwy 76

<<SR 76   [IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]  IS CLOSED FROM 2.4 MI EAST OF THE PAUMA VALLEY TO 4.3 MI WEST OF THE JCT OF SR 79 (SAN DIEGO CO) – DUE TO FLOODING – A DETOUR IS AVAILABLE>>>  Before attempting to come up, check for current info.

You really don’t want to go anywhere if you don’t absolutely have too.  I was driving across Crestline when it started sleating – sideways in this wind – looked at the time and it was 3:56.  That weatherman predicting white stuff beginning at about 4:00 was pretty close.  Just a dusting so far – mostly hail – very slushy – strong winds.

Here are links that should be helpful to check on the latest.  You’ll also find this posted on Snow Tips and Pix:
