Is this box from YOUR cabin?

Someone left this box on our patio last fall.  The note taped to the box is on paper printed with “Palomar Mountain, California” at the bottom and the handwriting says:

Vacation/Family memories

These need to go to family  🙂

The box is full of wonderful family slides dated mostly in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  I would love to get these to a family member but alas, don’t have a clue who it belongs to.  If you dropped this off at our place, please let me know what cabin it came from and I’ll contact the prior owners.

Here are a few names – the only names – on the slides:

Dick’s woodwork

Mable’s school projects and doll house

Gay Hewellyn

Llewellyn Lundy

Claude and Virginia

The Pajareses

Thanks!

Geologist Rob with Earthquake Preparedness Tips

Palomar Cabin Owner and Geologist, Rob Hawk sends the following links your way.  Thanks Rob!

From: Hawk, Rob

Below please find the links for earthquake preparedness the City of San Diego sent out to our employees.  Last week was a good warning, but we need to take responsibility for our own safety in the first minutes following a major earthquake.  Most residents of Palomar live close to the Elsinore Fault, which runs through Palomar.

Rob

Robert N. Hawk, PE Senior Engineering Geologist/Deputy City Engineer Engineering and Capital Projects Field Division

9485 Aero Drive, MS 18 San Diego, 92123 858-573-5011

From: Internal Communications to all City Employees
Subject: Earthquake Preparedness
The recent earthquakes felt in San Diego have been unsettling to many of us and raised questions about what to do when an earthquake occurs.  Both the City’s website and FEMA provide valuable information about how to be prepared for an earthquake and what to do during one.  Please see the following links for more information:

Horse loose on South Grade

Just got a call from Shirley Thompson.  She said a horse is loose on the South Grade.  I have had several calls and e-mails about this horse (and a couple goats and dogs ) that have been out on the road about half way up the Grade …  It is pretty foggy now and maybe even a little snow headed our way later tonight so Shirley asked me to pass on that if you are going up or down the mountain, you might want to be extra careful.

Click for the weather forecast.  Burr!

Are you the next to love “Blue Haven” on Palomar?

With humble beginnings in 1947, look at her now!  One of the most charming cabins ever is waiting for you on Bailey Meadow Road.  Read why this cabin owner loved living there so much, see a peek at the details and I’m glad to open the door!

Smith Mountain Band Revival – Live Music with a Square Dance

You’re invited!  Smith Mountain Band REVIVAL  Live Music and Square Dancing

The CCPM Square Dance on Sat May 1st, 7pm, at the Fire Station just became even more of a night to remember. Those of us who are relative newcomers to the Mountain may not remember ‘The Smith Mountain Band’. However, if you’ve lived on the Mountain for 20 years or more, you’ll no doubt know exactly who I’m talking about. Our very own – Our very talented – Genuine Palomar Mountain Cowboy Musicians… Dutch Bergman, brothers Bruce and Bill Druliner, and Steve Barry will once again perform for us as The Smith Mountain Band.

A reunion like no other!!  Some say it’s been more than 20 years since all four Mountain Musicians have played together.  So, grab your dancin’ shoes and do-si-do your way down to the Fire Station for a night of Square Dancing, Two Stepping, Live Music and Dessert.  This is bound to be a night to remember!!

Here are the details:  https://palomarmountainnews.wordpress.com/2010/04/05/square-dance-may-1st-save-the-date/

We were shakin’! Earthquake Preparedness

Everyone has their own story about the earthquake yesterday afternoon.  Folks had just left the potluck at the Round House when I looked up and was amazed to see those big ceiling timbers creaking and feel that house moving like there was nothing to it!

Bill Horn’s office sent the following:

Earthquake preparedness booklet you can download: http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/oes/

In the event of an earthquake, emergency personnel stress the need to be mentally prepared and when things start shaking, to get to a safe spot, avoiding heavy or breakable items falling on you.

Supervisor Horn said, “Our disaster preparedness guide provides tips on what to do if it is necessary to shut off natural gas supplies.  Once a person’s home front is stabilized, assistance can be given neighbors, especially the elderly.  The first three days of any natural disaster are the most critical as emergency assistance may not be readily available.  That’s why it’s important to have enough canned food, bottled water and other supplies that will sustain people for about 72 hours.”

REGISTER YOUR CELL PHONE – Additional information for emergency planning is available at www.ReadySanDiego.org and clicking on the “Family” tab.  To receive emergency information or instructions during a local emergency, residents are encouraged to register their cell phones on the ReadySanDiego site for AlertSan Diego, the County’s emergency notification system.
