Back to Nature – Cabin For Sale

Escape to a very private, charming cabin with a knotty pine lining the walls throughout.  An inviting nature trail meanders through the nearly two acres of land.  The trail takes you past a tree house to a very special place with front row seats amid big, beautiful boulders.  Look out to an Observatory view while watching for deer, wild turkeys and listening to a magnificent chorus of birds!  See more details at www.palomarproperties.com/cabins the let’s take off on a nature walk.

Have you seen Rosebud?

Pete and Holly are almost on their way to North Dakota with their two dogs and up until a couple of hours ago, Holly’s favorite cat of all times, Rosebud.  Rosebud had just been let out of his carrier to stretch his legs up at the Round House when he slipped out of his bridle and took off like a bolt of lightning.  Rosebud lived for many years at Holly’s “Blue Haven” on Bailey Road so might be around Bailey’s.  Or, since it is now well past dinner time, he just may be headed toward their former cabin at the end of Crestline.  Pete and Holly will leave the first thing in the morning and would love to take Rosebud with them. However, if he isn’t back in Holly’s arms before they go, they would appreciate hearing any news so please “Comment” or call with sightings of this much-loved Rosebud.

Thank you, Bonnie Phelps

Oak Tree Update

Borer beetle sapping oaks, heading here.  Bug heads west from county’s backcountry, could threaten trees statewide, experts say, May 26, 2010, San Diego Union Tribune

By Mike Lee, mike.lee@uniontrib.com

There are photos of oaks in Marian Bear park, a map of infestations, and a sketch of the GSOB life cycle, in article posted on webpage,   http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/may/26/borer-beetle-sapping-oaks/  Draws on reports and quotes from experts, limited text on importance of quarantine and public education.  /s/ Anne Fege]

A bug that has killed more than 20,000 oaks in the backcountry has made a beachhead in suburban San Diego, raising the specter of tree die-offs across neighborhoods and parks in the county and beyond. A new report by the U.S. Forest Service confirms that gold-spotted oak borer beetles have been found at Marian Bear Memorial Park in Clairemont, 45 miles west of where the agency first confirmed an infestation in 2008.

The insect also has been reported in Crest and the western edge of Ramona.

Saturday, June 5 •  5:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The day begins early when you will learn how to capture the subtle pastels of a mountain sunrise over a scenic lake. Following breakfast on your own we will travel a short distance to a serene mountain meadow that we will have all to ourselves.

In this natural classroom, participants will join in workshops on nature and landscape photography, macro techniques and outdoor portraiture. You will have plenty of time for individual shooting as well as one-on-one time with instructors.
