Cute, Cozy, Cabin in the Woods

Cute, Cozy, Cabin in the Woods For Sale  Palomar Mountain Cabin For Sale  Mountain Cabin for sale

This listing was up for just a couple of days when the owner called and said, “Tell them I’m a motivated seller and reduce it $10,000”!  It is the lowest price on Palomar!!!

I realized with all the Thanksgiving turkey and extra pie, somehow along the way, I hadn’t even posted this cute, cozy, cabin in the woods yet for all of you!   Well, call me quick!  The seller added a screened in patio to this 1932 little gem. The cabin is now staged and sparkling clean!  Some great repairs have been made – a new counter in the kitchen and new roof on the outhouse!  Yes,  it is an original outhouse.  (Don’t you love it!?!!)  The seat is gone now but, oh my, what a great place for sleds!  There is an album of lots more pix plus the MLS link waiting for you here.

Come see!  You could be in for the first snow!

Shooting on Palomar

Hear the gun shots yesterday?  Several people mentioned that they heard a lot of rapid shooting on Saturday coming from the Canfield Road area.  I was visiting the AK Ranch – the new owners of the property that was formerly the Girl Scout Camp.  It wasn’t them!  Someone was shooting right next door on the National Forest property.  But you could also hear it at Bailey’s and up on Crestline.

As many of you know, shooting is allowed on much of the land on Palomar (not in the housing areas).  Depending on where you are on the mountain, some of the topography makes it seem even louder a distance away.  I know most property owners want to be very considerate of their neighbors.  I’m sure those guys on National Forest were having a great time but we’re thankful they ran out of bullets.

That’s the latest!

Giving Thanks

    Thanksgiving in the Hay Barn

Hoping you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We celebrated with our family and friends in our Hay Barn and around the campfire.  So special.

Just want you to know that I am doing my part keeping the computer business booming.  I had my newest one up on a shelf to play music for our celebration, went to move it and it bounced, and bounced again.  My early Christmas present is finally up and working.  I am very thankful that all was up on a cloud but there is a lot waiting for me.  Thanks for the patience of my clients waiting for new listings to head your way (stay tuned!), for those of you waiting for a response, or who sent a message my way to turn around.  Lots on the way!

Learning Windows 8 and thankful for YOU!

Recognize these dogs?

From:  Jana

I found these two small dogs on route 76 yesterday.  Thinking a subscriber to the Mountain News might recognize them so they can be reunited with their owner for a very happy Thanksgiving.

Friends of Earl Walls

Our dear friend of so many on Palomar Mountain, Earl Walls, slipped away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 15 at ten minutes after noon. It was almost exactly 4 weeks to the minute of the day his car was hit head-on by a women driver, who then fled the scene of the crash.

Earl did so much for the mountain serving with the PMPO, Community Center, Fire Department, and Action Committee. Most of us remember usually seeing Earl in his work clothes, but he also cleaned up pretty nice! Louise, his wife and ‘TravLnNutt’, said he loved getting all dressed up in his tux for the many cruises they took. Earl and Louise enjoyed so much, packing their passports and cameras and touring our big, beautiful world. However, there was ‘no place like home’, to coming back to Palomar.

Plans for a celebration of Earl’s life are not complete at this time. This information will be released by family soon.

Like to send a card?

The Earl Walls Family

PO Box 39

Palomar Mountain, CA 92060

So sorry to hear about Earl.  He was clearly one of those rare individuals that touched the lives of many people in a positive and memorable way.  Our sincere condolences & prayers,  Robert & Dorothy Joslin

Hold at all Costs airing tonight!

Mountain Composer, Larry Groupe wrote the score for a documentary airing again tonight: Hold at all Costs.

Click for the video trailer.  Larry composed some beautiful music for this very moving film.   Honoring our Veterans, Bonnie Phelps

From: Larry Groupé
Tune in Sunday evening (Veterans Day) at 6pm on KPBS TV for “Hold at all Costs”.

A documentary on the harrowing events that took pace on outpost Harry during the Korean War.  This Multi Emmy winning film is an emotional and moving story that captures an important saga in our American experience.  A forgotten war, in a forgotten time, about forgotten soldiers.  This is the story of “Outpost Harry” – 1953 Korea.

When you finish your Bar-B-Q settle in or set your video recorder to catch this broadcast. If you have any interest in the Korean state of affairs today then it behooves you to know about the 1950’s conflict that happened before.

The film shares the stage with both sides of the DMZ…. The North Koreans and the Chinese army, as well as the Americans and South Koreans. If you know anyone who was ever associated with the Korean war I urge you to alert them to this event.  They will thank you.

And I of course thank you as always for supporting independent filmmaking.

Very best,  Larry

Comment from: Marlynn Peak

Wanted to thank you for the post about the Hold at all Costs  program.  We were spell-bound by that piece of our history, knowing about the composer added an additional enjoyment to the program.  Interesting side bar, my Uncle, a WWII vet, was also served in the Korean war.  I vividly remember him leaving with black hair and when he returned a couple of years later his hair was completely white!  He was only in his mid 30s at the time. Thanks again!  Marlynn
