Road Delays for about a Month

hwy 76 paving   hwy 76 paving

As most of you know, Hwy 76 paving will be all brand new before the holidays.  Road delays can be about 45 minutes, I’m told, so when you are going up or down the mountain, you might want to have a good book with you.  It was pretty impressive to watch for my little 5 minute wait a few days ago.  The equipment was removing the old cracked asphalt and right behind it, the new was going in.  When I gave a big “thumbs up” for the great job, I asked the worker how long, he said, “about a month”.

Think a lot of us will be catching up on our reading, or you might also enjoy the views from the Nate Harrison Grade.  If it has been a while since you’ve driven that road, you will be impressed with the additional paving there, too.  Gotta have that view as your very own?  40 acres out there is waiting for a new owner!

Cal Fire prepares for high temps, Santa Ana winds

Cal Fire prepares for high temps, Santa Ana winds

SAN DIEGO COUNTY — Cal Fire is adding equipment and staffing beginning Wednesday in San Diego County as a forecast of high temperatures, Santa Ana winds and low humidity increase the danger of wildfires.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the county from 11 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday. Weak to moderate Santa Ana winds are expected. Temperatures in the inland valleys could reach 100 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Relative humidity is expected to be in the single digits.

Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said Tuesday night that the increased resources will include an air tanker coming from Northern California, making a total of three available in Ramona.

Extra staffing will include additional battalion chiefs throughout the county and more personnel at the county’s emergency command and control center.

With the severe drought, fire officials have said the county’s backcountry is as dry or worse than it was during the firestorms of 2003 and 2007.

The most devastating wildfires in the county have occurred in the month of October, Bortisser said.

“We’re making sure we have resources in place,” he said.

Plumbing Poem for Cabins?

plea for our plumbing poem

Camping in the High Sierra’s, I came across this poem on the wall of an almost-out-house.  The plaque wasn’t for sale, so took the pic for you.  Sometimes the mountain septic systems have been a little taxed.  I’m thinking a version of this just may show up in some of the Vacation Rentals and cabins on our little mountain.  The rentals are non-smoking but have had issues with toys in the commode, (oh my!) so I took a little liberty:

Dear City Dwellers, whose lives entail

Plumbing Fixtures which seldom fail,

And sewer pipes which hold so much

You can grind your garbage and other such.

To you, who do not know the gripes

Of Septic Tanks and half inch pipes;

Lend your ears to one who knows

Your Mountain Cousin’s plumbing woes.

Our toilet business may look like you’n

But many things they just ain’t endurin’

Like “wet strength” towels and Kleenex, too

Bleach and other modern products, they do eschew.

Children’s toys create a rumble.

E’en too much tissue makes ’em grumble.

So City Dweller, don’t offend.

Treat Mountain Plumbing like a friend.

Test drive of Tesla S

Date changed for Test Drive:

Tesla test drive in UTC from October 1, at 11:00 P.M. to October 13 at 3:00 P.M.? Thank you.

Did you know, the roof is so strong that it can support 3 Tesla Model S on top, and a Tesla S owner recently crashed into a concrete wall at 110 MPH and walked away unscathed!!

Can have three guests. Anyone wanting to go along should call David Drake at 760-638-9580.

Also I am trying to get Tesla to bring their new “Gull wing doors” Model X Two motor all wheel drive crossovers up here.
