Oops! Proof-reader Dozing

Good help is so hard to find.  My proof-reader, oh, you know, that guy that often wears a big cowboy hat, was dozing in his recliner in front of the fire last night. So the messages got sent too soon.

The links weren’t right in a couple of them.  They are now fixed at Palomar Mountain News where you can scroll down and view.

You can also go straight to Cabin Fever or click to see the info on all of our Mountain Musicians.

Oh, this beautiful snow is finally here.  Big, fluffy flakes with just a dusting so far.  Winter Wonderland!

New poles for Palomar

pole

Going down the East Grade, we stopped for a few minutes while a huge crane was getting in place to set some new poles.  We were told that SDG&E is replacing wooden poles with steel poles, across the mountain.  The plan is to have a safer situation during fires, storms and high winds. Read More…

Dafodills, Turkeys, and Birds before the Rain

dafodills on palomar mountain   palomar mountain turkeys

The mountain is painted with so many early daffodils. Picked a couple bouquets today with this promised rain and maybe a bit of snow.

The wildlife sure seem excited about the change in the weather!   Here are just a few of the flock of about 40 turkeys down in our orchard today.  Later about 200 pigeons flew in and out too fast for my camera.

Stoke up your fire!

Badwater Race to Palomar in May

Joseph nakamura Salton Sea to Palomar Badwater Race  joe 2.jpg  Palomar mountain Badwater race

This is one tough race to begin at the Salton Sea and run the 81 miles to Palomar.  Last year it was 99 degrees out in Borrego where they went through a wind storm before reaching the mountain.  It was after dark when they hit Ranchita, then greeted with rain and 34 degrees on the Mountain. I learned about this race from Joseph Nakamura who participated last year an is back this year with a new team, staying at Cabin Fever.  I thought some of you subscribers would like to hear about the race, too and maybe even be out that first Sunday night in May to cheer them on to the finish line.
