The Apple Festival was the best ever this year!  I sure learned a lesson!  Next year I’m going to get there early to get in on even more fun.  Pie eating contest and Square Dancing!!!  It was such a nice time, in the clouds, seeing neighbors and friends and so many folks enjoying such a great day on Palomar.  Thanks to ALL who volunteered to make it so special.  Did you take pix?  Keep reading from Rick:

Barb’s Bookshelf Quilt at the Apple Festival

barbara anne waite author, quilt

Barb Waite will have her books at the Apple Festival Sunday with a backdrop of this very creative quilt.  Here is some info about it and be sure to stop by, see the work of art, and go home with her wonderful books.

From:  Barbara Anne Waite

This is the first quilt I have ever made. No pattern- just saw an idea on pinterest. Took photos of my book covers, my cat, a vintage photo of my mom and printed them on cloth.

The idea is a bookcase, featuring the two Elsie books. It is also a tribute to other parts of the world I have lived in or want to visit. Elsie brought me a tea towel in 1970 when she went to visit Wales and Jack’s remaining family- so that too, became a part of the quilt. A favorite piece of sea island cotton became the flower vase.

I could not have completed it without Palomar weekend neighbor, Lynda Ruth doing all the final putting it together.  It has a backing that is a dictionary that references fabric. Words are not enough to thank Lynda for the hours she gave to make it such a keepsake treasure.

I have now sold over 3,000 print of the first book and over 5,000 ebooks. They include some fun stories about mountain characters and hired help. The hired help includes the story of discovering they had hired an ax murderer to chop wood for them on Palomar!!!  Those were the days!

Looking forward meeting you on Sunday.

Robert the Stump Grinder

Robert the Stump Grinder

Popped by a property and saw Robert the Stump Grinder busy cleaning up for the new buyer.  It’s fun to watch!  First he cuts the stumps to ground level, then plays with this big grinder.  Pretty amazing.  Then he hauls the stumps away.

If no stumps are in your future, give Robert a call at 760 742-1891.

Boucher Lookout Open to Tour Sunday!

curt waite San Diego County Forset Fire Lookout

Would you like to take the stairs to the very top of the Boucher Fire Lookout?  It is FREE on Sunday during the Apple Festival.   Boucher is staffed 9 am to 5 pm and you are invited to visit.  Be sure to take your camera!  Volunteers will answer your questions, you’ll get to go out on the catwalk, and see the 360 degree view the trained volunteers are treated to while watching for ‘smokes’.

Curt Waite, chairman of the San Diego Fire Lookout popped by and invited all of you to stop in. To get there, you go to the State Park entrance and they will direct you, straight through and up the hill.  Maybe arrive early so you can drive on up easily as parking will be limited.

Festival starts runs from 11 to 4 at the Silvercrest Picnic area.

Please email or you’ll be talkin’ to a Cowboy!

call

About a month ago, my voice started vanishing.  Now the doctor says I am to not talk or even whisper, at all, for a couple more weeks.  (That will be a miracle!)

Since I am not sick, I am still working even harder than ever keeping up with my Real Estate with my iPad speaking for me (thanks Mike Pique for showing how to set that up!), or practicing my cursive with a pen and pad of paper.

If you’d like to get in touch with me, you are welcome to call.  We listen to the message, then you’ll get a call back from a certain cowboy I live with.  He’ll will most likely suggest you email me or Facebook me, so he can get on with his ride and you can get your questions answered.

It’s been pretty fun showing property because I can click on notes in my iPad for that particular property and let Seri (or one of the other voices with delightful accents) do the talking!  The grandkids are lovin’ it too.

Hoping you’ll all be able to join in on the fun at the Apple Festival!  I’ll be there with a big smile, some wonderful apple goodies to share, and probably paper and pen that day.

Elsie’s Mountain!

elsies mountain barbara anne waite

The long-awaited second book of Elsie’s beautiful look on life and her love of Palomar Mountain, has arrived.

Many of you have read Barbara Anne Waite’s book of the first set of her grandmother’s journals and letters. Elsie’s Adventures of an Arizona School Teacher tells of this young girl teaching in a one room school in Arizona. When the first book arrived, I had to finish that same night before I could put it down.

Now, Don is reading aloud to me, Elsie’s Mountain.  Oh, so wonderful to hear of the early days on Palomar in Elsie’s own words.

“Remembering vividly as a girl in 1904, I recognized that Palomar belonged to me from the moment I reached the top and the wagon stopped on the crest.  I ran thru the woods to the edge and saw the worlds spread below in unutterable beauty. If it is commendable for a citizen to claim a city proudly as his own, is it too outrageous that one should with passionate devotion claim a mountain?”

You’ll be able to pick up your copy at the Apple Festival next Sunday afternoon and here is a link to order on Amazon where your reviews are always welcomed!

Welcome New Neighbor, Bobby Graziano

bobby graziano

It sure was fun to see this post on Facebook yesterday:

On September 30th, 2010 my lifestyle officially changed. I closed escrow on my Pauma Valley property. That property became a ranch, an avocado grove, and a proving ground for skills I would acquire. Now, five years later, September 30th, 2015 I closed escrow on a new ranch. A slice of heaven, called Palomar Mountain. 28 acres of “off the grid” living perched at 4600 feet of elevation this gem of a property sits among the clouds. There are views that will not quit, and the freshest air San Diego County has to offer. I feel privileged to officially call a piece of this magical place my own.

A warm welcome to our newest mountain neighbor, Bobby Graziano! When he isn’t working on his properties, he works in the aerospace field.  It will be fun to see what this rocket scientist creates with his new land.

Moon rises over trees with eclipse underway

mike's moon rise 2  Thanks to Mike Pique for his Moon Rise over the Mountain, with Eclipse Underway. You can see the trees at the bottom of the photo.  Pretty special shot, Mike!  Mike was out with other locals at the lookout on East Grade Road.

It was fun last night as I was returning from a late property showing to see folks out in several places across the mountain, meeting up with neighbors with cameras to take a look at the moon. Oh, the beautiful moon!
