County Emergency Site w/Cool Zones

vclibrary

What a ‘cool’ link from Suzann!  Today all of Palomar Mountain is a ‘Cool Zone’ – about 75 at our place right now.  It is lovely up here – feels like it wants to rain.  I did notice the closest place posted on the map for Palomar folks to cool off is the Valley Center Library.  A great library that offers so much for you and your Pooch!  https://palomarmountainnews.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/books-movies-and-much-more-for-you-and-your-pooch

From: Suzann M. Leininger

This is a link to an interactive map where you can see active emergencies in the county.  It is also currently showing cool zones if anyone needs a place to beat the heat.

Please note that fire, evacuation, and other hazard boundaries are approximate and can change rapidly.  This map is based on official mapping sources that show rough footprints of active emergencies and emergency notification areas from responding agencies that may take several hours to produce.  Zooming into specific locations may produce misleading information. Please monitor official County of San Diego Updates or call 2-1-1 for specific emergency information such as road closures and evacuations.

Moving Van Came up the Nate!

2 men

2 men 2

Yes, you read that right.  A moving van came up the Nate Harrison Grade today.  They were just following their GPS.  For two guys who had never been to Palomar before, they had quite an introduction.

Plus, the Nate was socked in a cloud.  They said they could barely see to the back of the van.  They counted 10 turns where they had to get out, watch out, and carefully back up a couple times to make it around.  They said they could see far enough to realize they were on the edge of a sheer drop in several places and commented that if they had gone over the side, they were quite sure they would never be found.

Those two guys were the happiest guys on the planet when they broke through the clouds and saw our beautiful, blue sky!

So, here is a tip:  When you have delivery guys, a moving van, or your mom, heading this way for the first time:  You might suggest they stick to your very clear directions including “If your GPS includes the Nate Harrison Grade click for an alternate route up the South Grade S-6.  The East Grade can take a little longer, but best for the big rigs.

When you need a mover, these guys were hard working and very pleasant and they now know the best way to the Mountain!

Two Men and a Truck will move you!

Real Estate Update

chicks

Two escrows closed this week. ‘ Just Around the Bend’ has some very excited new owners.  That escrow might have taken the prize for the longest so far in my 16 years.  We had a very helpful seller, very patient buyers, an engineering firm and county offices that finally got us a driveway approval.  It will be fun to watch how that beautiful view property develops.

I’m going to miss these chickens!  ‘Honey, Stop the Car’ has new owners heading our way to live on the mountain full time.  During escrow the seller needed to be out of state a couple times so I popped by to check on the chicks!  How fun to save table scraps, water melon rinds and all sorts of goodies for the gals, swapping for their eggs!   I think we need more chickens up here!

We also need MORE LISTINGS!  Just put the 82 acres on Nate Harrison into pending a few minutes ago and have an offer heading our way on another.  But, we are back down to an all-time low, again! Just let me know what questions I can answer for those of you considering selling.

There are a couple listings for you buyers to scoop up – some with recent price adjustments.  Then, let’s get a few more options for these summer buyers.

No ‘June Gloom’ up here!  Life is grand, above the clouds, come on up!

Yes, we felt the Earthquake

bert's earthquake view

It was 1:03 am when I set up in bed when I heard the whole house tremble at the top of Palomar Mountain.  Think most of us on the mountain woke up.  Thankful it didn’t do any damage.  Enjoyed a pic posted on Bert Hulbert’s Facebook of the beautiful view we got up to a few hours later.   Life above the clouds is pretty special these days!

“An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 shook Southern California early this morning. The quake was centered about 14 miles northwest of Borrego Springs”
