Subject: Fire Hazard Inspections

We will be continuing with Fire Hazard inspections this Wednesday.  Residents may see a combination of USFS and CALFIRE personnel on the mountain as in years in the past conducting inspections.  If any resident would like to schedule an appointment with us they can by calling myself at 619-209-1414 and we will schedule.  Fire season is on us as we see in the news daily.  Thank you all for your effort in making your residence defensible should the need arise.

Jack and Simon just spent their third week as the newest mountain twins and whatdoyouknow, dad had a job change!  Mom is already busy packing again, their moving van knows the way to Palomar, and they will be heading back to city life. So sorry to see them go but let’s get ‘Honey Stop the Car’ sold again, soon!

One of the most charming, vintage cabins and a garage (Wow, a garage is very special for Palomar!) is being offered for a new owner to enjoy.  Built during our Real Estate boom in 1924, most is very original.  A big stone fireplace has a wood stove now, and even propane heat for the cabin.  How special is that!  The county records show 709 sf but that is only the living room, big kitchen, a bedroom and bath. You also have steps up to a sleeping loft with three beds to choose from. In addition to that, a ladder takes you to a walk-out basement that had been a small apartment in the past.  Now used for storage and laundry.  There are projects waiting for you but meanwhile, many possibilities to step back in time a bit.

Who will rescue this stove?  Wouldn’t it be fun to see this stove restored in one of the cabins on Palomar.  It is FREE to pick up on the mountain.  Just comment below, and I’ll point you in the right direction.

Staging a new cabin-on-the-way, we came across three sets of encyclopedias and about 150 National Geographic magazines.  All you home-schoolers out there or fans of a real book you can hold in your hands, now is your chance.  Free!

Your Fire Safe Council has been working toward a grant utilizing the California Conservations Corps on Palomar.  It was great to meet Steven Kirsch and Phil Lembke and take them on a mountain tour.

There are several areas the FSC pointed out that need grooming.  It looks very promising for the CCC’s to start on grooming the area across the road from the Fire Department, and then along the south side at the top of South Grade, to give us a bit of a fire break if fire is heading our way.

Tomorrow is our monthly meeting and you are always welcome.  Phelps place on State Park Road.  10 am.  Comment below if you’d like more info.

So thankful to wake up to clear air this morning.  This was our view about dinner time last night. You can see the smoke blocking the view a bit to Catalina out there. About 10 ish, our place got really smoky – kind of hard to get to sleep. Guessing the fire fighters were working overtime to get that fire put down.

How fascinating and fun to watch Dario at work!  He brought up his willow branches yesterday and dowsed for a couple new wells on Palomar. If you are in the market for a new well and would like to know how many gallons per minute you might get, have Dario check it out!  760 710-1962

Being 15 months old, we appreciate someone else to have fun with at our new house on Palomar Mountain, when Mom and Dad go on date nights a couple times a month.   Once in a while, mom likes free time during the day, too.

We love to play outside and discover new things. Reading books is a highlight of our day. Eating is another of our favorites.  When we are napping, there are some chores mom might have for you to do.  Please call or email Mom. Steve and Jennifer Schroeder are living their dream. Their goals of raising their twin sons in “a small community with fresh air, clean water, and good people” is coming true. They both love to garden and are looking forward to harvesting their organic produce. Steve keeps busy with a demanding job in corporate finance. Jen took an early retirement from her work as a family therapist, focusing on children. She now works double-time raising Jack and Simon and keeping their home running smooth. It is so nice to have another young family join in the fun and adventures of Palomar Mountain.
