What ideas do you have to continue our annual event? Our Labor Day event on Palomar Mountain has been a tradition for approximately 30 years.  The Community Center is looking for members of the community to help keep this tradition alive.  Would you like to help?  What ideas do you have? We welcome your email or phone call with suggestions of what could be wonderful for all.

Everyone is also invited to come to a meeting on April 29th at 10am at the Fire Station Trailers out in back.  Let’s work together toward a fun weekend.

FD Sale Success!$!

The Palomar Mountain Fire Dept Board of Directors would like to thank those who turned out today and purchased surplus equipment we had lying around. The department received nearly $1600.00 to fatten the bank account and everyone got some killer deals (and freebies, too!!).

Also, the department donated some items to our friends at the La Jolla Indian Reservation Volunteer Fire Department and one individual purchased some items for donation to a volunteer fire department in Oregon.

Thanks to the community of Palomar Mountain.

Cliff Kellogg for the PMVFD Board

Prescribed Burning continues to happen in the vicinity of High Point tower. It’s good to know how many fire trucks we can fit at High Point if needed.

State Park Hike Tomorrow

logo

Another fun day is planned tomorrow for Kids Club including moms, dads, grandparents, and those who think our mountain kids are just the best!

9 am, Tuesday morning, with your hiking shoes!

Bring a picnic for your family or to share.

Meet in the parking area, outside the park, in front of the State Park sign, on the right of the road. (If you come to the apple orchard meadow and kiosk at the main entrance, you’ve gone too far.)

Everyone can park (at no charge), one of the cars can take your picnic things and whatever into the park and meet up at Silvercrest picnic area.

The rest of the group will take off on a trail that begins directly across State Park Road on the left side of the road.  It roams along the rim with a fabulous view, ends in the parking area at Silvercrest Picnic Area.  A visit is planned to the State Park kiosk to see some cool things in their little museum.  Those that are more adventurous can hike up to Boucher Lookout, and loop back down the trail.

Lots of great Indian rocks to climb on at Silvercrest – wonder how many grinding holes can be found?

Lunch will be around the tables under those huge trees at Silvercrest. Paper goods will be provided.  You bring the kids and lots of fun or just come join in!

Scavenger Hunt

hunt

Like a simple, free, fun game for kids on Palomar?  We were invited to a birthday party today – lotsa kids.  They needed four adult volunteers to lead teams for a scavenger hunt.  I got to be one of the volunteers.  So fun.

It was great to observe the kids thrill in finding all the things on their lists.  They were cautioned about poison oak (still look like sticks these days) and told the difference in daffodils and wild flowers – no picking neighbors flowers!  The feather was the hardest for our team to find, but what do you know?  In our hike around Crestline and Birch Hill, we came to the Spotted Owl cabin.  I told the kids that the owners really actually studied birds and named their cabin after the owls they watch for.  We finally found our tiny little feather out by their driveway.

The city kids were interesting as they were really thrilled to learn the difference between a pine tree, fir and cedar and hunt for acorns under the different kinds of oaks.

Pretty special up on this mountain top.

April Fools!

Oh how I wish this wasn’t an April Fools joke!  Lots of SOLD signs recently and just opened escrow for the Pedley Valley property.  So, now we are down to only two cabins and two pieces of land for sale.  I’ve had folks think something is wrong with the MLS!  Only TWO in the entire zip code?  That’s right!  Listings needed!

The cabins and land available now should go quickly: PalomarProperties.com

Buyers are email me asking for cozy cabins, fixers, view properties, buildable land, a place for horses, large home with room for family and friends, ranch property …  do you have something that might fit their wish list?  Glad to get your questions answered.
