New Neighbors – Jakubs Family

IMG_2875

Living in the city and missing the mountains, tall trees and the beauty of nature the Jakubs Family had to do something about that!  A cabin on Palomar! Crescent was raised in western Maryland while Tonja was growing up in Hood River Oregon. They love the woods and everything about their vintage cabin.  Crescent has put his General Contractor skills to work restoring their cabin for their family and future generations to enjoy.  He also keeps busy during the week as the Facilities Director for the Old Globe in Balboa Park.  Tanja has keeps busy caring for Nolan (not pictured), Tori, Harper and Zylen, and enjoys volunteering in their school.  A very musical family, they all look forward to making music and more wonderful ’round the fire on their mountain.

SpaceX Launch from Palomar

Wow, what a beautiful sight last night!  I get a message about 7:15pm last night to look out to the west.  Mike Pique was looking up to a thick cloud cover in San Diego.  He was hoping we could see the first west coast space launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Our sky was clear, twinkling stars!  We went out on our back deck and saw bright light through the trees.

We ran down stairs and I grabbed my phone.  It was thrilling to see!  Taken from our patio, that is our American flag in the foreground, looking out toward the ocean through those trees.  A couple minutes of beauty and wonder…  and it was gone…  next time!

The usual rules apply: No HAZMAT, tires, paint, chemicals, e-waste, or large appliances.

Please add to come early and donations are gratefully accepted.

D&D and Real Estate News

IMG_9279

Real Estate is rollin’ on the Mountain!!!  In the years past, September has been pretty slow.  Kids are back in school and folks are catching up on new schedules – we often take off for a few weeks and I’ve never missed an appointment.  Fast-forward to September 2018?!?! Sooooo many showings and so much going on!!!  I don’t remember being this busy in a very long time!

We have six properties in escrow on Palomar.  I have the pleasure to represent the sellers, buyers or both on all six:

The Prince arrived for Sleeping Beauty!

Happy Holler has a new couple looking forward to a family project to fix up and escape the city life.

Mountain View buyers are so excited to learn it has a ‘secret room’!  I didn’t know!  Very special and fun!

That couple acres of vacant land with the amazing view that has been in escrow forever?  It is finally finishing up some lot combining, easement drama and soon to be something to watch as the new owner’s dream will unfold right before our eyes!

The little vintage fixer has a tarp on the missing roof for now but will have new life breathed in by the buyer with some great plans to restore and create something very special.

Three families have great plans for a family retreat on Panorama Trail.  They love the fact that a few fruit trees have been nurtured along these past few years.  They will be adding to it for weekends together at their farm-with-a-view.

Oh, and the ‘Definition of Cute”?!??  Those buyers had absolutely no intention of buying another cabin at all when they came over for *D&D.  I told them I needed to run something over to the guests at Cabin Fever.  I kidnapped the gal to go with me.  Driving up Crestline, she saw the sign and asked about that cabin.  We pulled in for a peek.  Then we had to go back and get her husband.  How could he resist?!?  It already has a new name (stay tuned) and is very much loved.

So, I only have TWO listings left for you!  Both are nicer-than-a-cabin – they could be full time homes on Palomar!   Just tonight I finally got the Forest Retreat up on the MLS so all the info is waiting at that link.  Already scheduled appointments for both this weekend and into next week.  Do YOU want to come see, too?

What is next?  We sure could use some new listings up here!  Some are in the works now with tree trimming and clearing being done.  Owners often move things they want to keep, then I help stage what is left to make it extra-special for the buyers.   I often spend more time with clients before a property hits the MLS than during the marketing time.  Staging is so fun and makes such a tremendous difference.  Click to see just a few of my before and afters.  How may I help YOU?

Bonnie Phelps – having a great time on the Mountain!

*Dinner and Dominos!   Such old-fashioned FUN  – come join us!  🙂

Camera Tips from Frank

Like to get some cameras installed?  Have some questions?  East Grader, Frank McCarthy has been a tremendous help to many on the mountain with setting up cameras on or off grid.  Here is his comment on the post about the break-ins.  Let’s get those bad guys!

FROM: Frank McCarthy

I’m all about the cameras. Keith did it exactly right. You should put several cameras around at different points. It’s likely that the thieves will find one or two of them but if you hide them right, they won’t find all of them. And the Brownings take beautiful photos, and will store thousands of them, all for about $159 apiece. If you ever need help setting them up I’m happy to help…
619-993-5237. You get lots of nice wildlife photos too.

Two break-ins last week – Hooray for cameras!

Within the last few days, a garage was broken into at the top of the mountain.  Apparently items were staged inside to load up quickly when the thief returns.

We need to be extra careful and on the look-out.  If you see anything suspicious and can take safely a photo with a license plate, that would be wonderful.  The more camera’s on Palomar, the better.

A camera was sure helpful with this situation on the East Grade.  Do you know this guy?:

From: East Grad Resident

We came up on Friday to find our gate on East Grade broken and a stranger’s car by the garage.

We had a person break our gate and break into our garage and stay on our property from 9/9 to 9/14. This person took a white van from the property which was later found blocking another driveway on East Grade and towed on 9/17. The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras on the property and left his car on the property. It was discovered and towed away on 9/21. San Diego County Sheriff office has already been on the scene and identified the suspect from evidence at the scene as well as the surveillance photos showing him and his car.

Please note that this person may still be in the area.

Attached are two photos of him ten days ago.

We appreciate all the mountain residents who look out for each other and their properties!

Forest Retreat For Sale

1 5

Would TWO fireplaces work for you?  A beautiful brick fireplace in the great room and a stone fireplace downstairs in a wonderful family room?  Old barn wood on the walls, a bar, and a great workshop for all your tools?

Used as a weekend getaway, it would also be a great year-round home on .74 acre so lots of potential with your private forest or room to add a garage, barn or???

Simply visit Palomar Properties for lots more info.  Please click around the website as there are more homes, a cabin, and some fabulous view land for sale.  Then, come on up for your tour!

Thanks also for sharing and helping to get nice, new neighbors heading our way.
