Fire Starters from Kids Theatre Club

IMG_9691

Very charming mountain kids have been rehearsing for the Best Christmas Pageant Ever! They are raising funds for the costs of the production.  That is where YOU come in!  Mountain-made pinecone and bees wax fire starters are bagged up and ready to make it real easy to start your fires this winter.  They would make great gifts, too, at just $3.00 suggested donation!

The President of Woodpecker Firewood has offered to let them display at his stand on State Park Road.  You can pop by to pick some up, simply reply to this email and I’ll reserve them for you since their supply is limited. Directions:  From Mother’s Kitchen and the Store, take the road to the left, which is State Park Road.  Just over a mile, you will see the Kids Firewood stand on your right.

Be sure to save the date for the play!  There is quite a cast from kids living all across the mountain.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Saturday night of Thanksgiving Weekend, November 30th

7 pm at the Christian Conference Center, Main Chapel

Ticket suggested donations are $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family

You can reserve your tickets through heidi@heidiphelps.com

Thank you everyone for your support, cheering these mountain kids on with their fun endeavors which is fun for all of us, too!

Need some property clean up?

IMG_8774   IMG_9587

Need some clean up around your property?  Rob Maggi and his crew did a great job on a couple acres with his masticator, chain saws and chipper.  Wish I had a better before pic.  The driveway had already been opened up a bit for a service truck to get there.  Now all the vintage apple trees and the land all around the structures is signed off by Cal Fire as ‘fire safe’ for the season.

Like to talk to Rob about what he could do at your property?

Falling Cedar Cabin For Sale

IMG_9414 (1)    IMG_9290

Escape to the very last cabin at the very east end of Crestline and Birch Hill.  I’d be willing to guess most mountain folks don’t even know this cabin exists.  Very hidden and tucked away on four acres of magnificent boulders with enchanting trees…  Hike, bird watch, star gaze then come inside to a wonderful rebuild of a 1940 cabin-in-the-woods.  Beautiful craftsmanship, pride of ownership, delightful ambiance!

But that’s not all!!!  You have a total of 4 acres within 3 separate parcels.  Utilities are all underground on one of the vacant lots.  Easy connections to explore the idea of adding a larger cabin, building a barn or workshop,  Perhaps you’d just cherish the buffer from city life?  You do have all the modern comforts though; power, water, phone, internet, TV…   Simply click for the MLS details and photos.

Ah, it is wonderful to live on this mountain.  How about joining us in this adventure on Palomar!?!

Let’s go see!

Palomar cedar was milled on the mountain for this cute-as-can-be cabin in the woods. With beginnings 88 years ago, much as been done along the years to add to this cozy cabin. The present owners sanded the original floors, opened the kitchen to the living room, added new cabinets and counters.

The kitchen and master bedroom have open ceilings now, too. All windows are double pane. Within 700 square feet, there is one bedroom with a closet, and a second sleeping room the same size.

Possible Power Outages

download

When there are strong Santa Ana winds, there is a possibility for SDG&E to be pro-active and shut the power off.  Based on past experience, it is usually off only during day light hours.  However, our power has been off for several days at a time over the past 20 years.

Glancing at the weather forecast tonight, it looks like the wind won’t be as strong as first thought.

Here is SDG&E’s public safety page that also includes a link to see maps of areas that might be off over the next few days.

It is always good to be prepared and have a generator and other supplies on hand. We do have ours running during outages and are a free wifi hotspot, too.  Please message me for address.  All are welcome.
