Palomar Pioneers Travail and Tragedy

Here is the second in a Series from Jeff Smith on Pioneers of Palomar:

Rattler Man

Joseph Beresford, son of a British Lord, fell in love with the gardener’s daughter. His father, whose lineage went back to James I, gave him an ultimatum: marry beneath your rank and lose your inheritance. Joseph chose love. His father not only disowned him, he gave Joseph a small sum of money and banished him from England forever.

As they sailed to America in the late 1860s, Joseph assured his bride he’d strike gold in California. They would return in such high style that all the Beresfords — including a nephew who became Lord Mayor of London — would embrace them.

Heeerrrreeeessss Earl… YOUR help needed

Subject: CCPM Painting & Back stoop.
Hello everyone,

Bruce Cuney, our volunteer to paint the CCPM house, has informed me that he will be ready to go on Saturday morning, 12 June at 0800. Most of the help he will need will be focused on covering those elements that need shielding (windows and doors) and trim painting. Bruce will be using a spray painting system so wear fittingly attire; and bring along any old rags you can spare…
From 8am throughout the morning we’ll be serving free muffins and coffee. If you can’t make it at 8am, no worries…swing by at noon for lunch and help out in the afternoon instead.

I am hopeful that the material for the back stoop will be in by that time as well, so we can get started on it. The first things that have to be done is the footings for the posts, and attachment of the girders to the house foundation.

Hopefully we will have a turnout that will result in some just playing observor roles so please turn out. Rather too many than not enough.

Earl
