What’s for dinner? Try Rimel’s!

Like to eat healthy, delicious food?  Try Rimel’s!  Homegrown Meats, mountain raised, grass-fed beef, local line caught fish, range free chicken, fresh vegtables…all adds up to a great meal!  Many of you know Matt and Jackie Rimel who are often on Palomar and own restaurants on the coast.  Matt is up a couple of times a week cutting oak for their grill. You’ll enjoy seeing furniture they made of mountain oak at Rimel’s too.    Click for their new video that will air on Cox/Time Warner’s this weekend (but you saw it first on the Palomar Mountain News)!

Now, go out and treat yourself to some fine dining!  You’ll be glad you did, that’s a promise!

Asher Paintings of Palomar

I remember hearing stories about people buying paintings that Robert Asher painted of Palomar.  Guessing they were painted 8 to 9 decades ago.  Robert Asher homesteaded the property that he then gave to the Baptist Church in San Diego.  It is now the Christian Conference Center.  Thinking many of us recognize some of these views from that area of the Mountain.

Thanks to Peter, here are photos of the absolutely beautiful paintings the family has in storage.

FROM: Peter Brueggeman

Robert Asher paintings are in a storage unit in Mission Valley, in custody of descendents of Josephine Asher, Robert Asher’s sister. They are selling the family house in El Cajon, from which all these materials were housed.

The paintings look pretty good even with decades of dirt from storage; when cleaned, I’m sure they will look even better.

Asher took a painting class from Maurice Braun in Mesa Grande… here’s some of Braun’s paintings whose style I imagine influenced Asher http://www.bauerart.com/Braun.html

Lots of Palomar History on Peter’s Webpage – WOW!

Peter has invested untold hours for all of us who have a love for this Mountain and it’s history.  Books, photos, brochures and more are beautifully archived for us on his website.  He promises to send us a note as he has new additions.  THANKS PETER FROM ALL 🙂

From: Peter Brueggeman

Awhile ago, I resumed working on materials and have been adding items to my Palomar Mountain history website. If you haven’t looked there in awhile, you will see quite a bit more.  http://peterbrueggeman.com/palomarhistory/index.htm

Hotel on Palomar

This Robert Asher photo is the Palomar Hotel, ran by Smith & Douglass, located at the Silvercrest picnic area in the State Park. The Palomar Hotel is mentioned in Asher’s memoir “My Palomar” available at the General Store.

More Robert Asher Materials Surfaced!

Many thanks to former cabin owner, Peter Brueggeman  for the endless hours he has spent sourcing out and organizing wonderful historical information on Palomar.  The   book that Robert Asher wrote is available at the Palomar Mountain General Store. THANKS Peter!

Heads up to fellow Palomar Mtn history enthusiasts.

I spent the afternoon with a descendent of the sister of Robert Asher, author of the historical book, My Palomar.  I was located by that person through the Robert Asher materials on my website.

Robert Asher left Palomar to live out his remaining years with his sister in El Cajon area.

This is a photo of where Asher pitched his tent on her land, with the modest ‘house’ Asher then built on her land in which to live out his years.

I also received some of his Asher’s diaries from his Palomar Mtn years, many Asher photos and postcards, and I shot photos of Asher paintings of Palomar Mtn landscapes.

Good stuff!

Cabin owners are Packin’!

The owners of Big Rock Cabin have accepted an offer they simply cannot pass by and are moving out of state.  They wish they could take their cabin with them!!!  Since it won’t fit in the van, they just reduced their beloved getaway for a quicker sale.  Sparkling clean and ready to move in and enjoy.  Click to see a few new pix then come take a walk in the woods!
