Oh, we are going to miss these neighbors! What happened?!? Well, they went to visit family out of state and decided living a mile and a half from their daughter’s grandparents would be a wonderful idea. Speaking of family, Jeremy’s great grandparents built this charming cabin while living next door over 50 years ago. Later, his parents couldn’t resist another cabin down the mountain lane, plus a owned a piece of land that now has a big three story home that just happens to have new owners moving in. Lot of happy memories on Palomar with so much of their family roots up here, but it is your turn.
Click for the details. Like a tour? We can slip in a few showings to celebrate Labor Day in style! Owners will be packing, doing repairs and updating so offered ‘pardon our dust and watch for wet paint’ tours starting Monday, Sept. 4th. We’re to have more photos next week but I’m thinking we might have it spoken for by then…
Looking forward to meeting our next new neighbors. Will that be you?
Did you know there is a Water Park OPEN at the base of the mountain?! About 20 minutes from the top is a fun place to cool off! This is just the beginning of Phase One with more to come; all newly remodeled by the La Jolla Reservation. I was invited to do a quick walk-through with my camera.
Info was provided by Leah Herrera, the smiling gal at the entrance. Open Saturdays and Sundays and also open this Monday since it is a holiday. 8:30 am to 6:00 pm
$20 per adult, $15 for kids and 3 and under are free
Snack bar, bathrooms, showers. Some canopies for rent.
Suggestion to bring your own chairs and umbrellas or canopy. If the park fills up, you might want to have your own shade as it is limited.
711 Sengme Oaks – From Hwy 76, you’ll turn south on Sengme Oaks. There was no signage when I popped by but you’ll eventually see the park on your right and the entrance is third driveway.

Mountain neighbor, Mike Pique told me about this fun adventure so I met him there for quick pix then had to run. He stayed and cooled off for a few hours. Here is his review:
“Two pools are open, the larger one is shallow everywhere with 3 waterslides, mushroom fountain in center, and seven always-on jets arcing over into it from the edges. The other, smaller, pool goes from 4 feet to 5 feet deep and has two small (but much faster) helical waterslides, new since the old days. I found a shady chair by the big one and alternated between soaking and water-sliding. When not soaking, when I started to feel hot, I’d choose a waterslide. Since they all end up with me getting dunked and cooled off, it worked fine.
I stayed until 5 PM; they are open until 6 PM but only on weekends, plus open Labor Day. Even with kids running around, it felt very peaceful – the seven big water jets and the mushroom fountain made a constant pleasant sound.
The work they have put in is phenomenal. Still a lot to do with lots of conduit and piping sticking out of various places. But the grounds are lovely, with fresh sod and many newly planted trees. And having Palomar Mountain as a backdrop – how can you lose?’
Hoping they get lots of business. Let’s all go splash real soon!
Bonnie Phelps, Palomar Realtor looking forward to cooling off at the Water Park!
There are already some great prizes donated for the Opportunity Drawing at the Mountain Hoedown. Three carloads of nice stuff is being made ready and irresistible to set up for the event on Labor Day Weekend.
But, you know what?!? They could use a few more items!
What do YOU have that could be fun additions for the fund raiser? Do you have a business with a product or service that could be a gift certificate? Is there something new or like-new around your home, cabin or ranch that you aren’t using that maybe someone else would really appreciate? Did you get a crazy gift at the last White Elephant Gift Exchange that could turn out to be the most popular for the Drawing? Come on now, let’s see what else comes in to add to the good time next Saturday.
You are invited to drop anything off at my house on State Park Road. Or, drop off at 33520 Bailey Meadow Road so they will know how many tables to plan for all the donations. Or, Rosie will be at the Community Center area on Saturday Sept 2nd from 9:30 ish for most of the morning. You can also DM Rosie if you’re on ND. There are so many options working together for a fun event and fund raiser for our little community.
Everyone is invited to the Mountain Hoedown a week from Saturday from 11 until 2:00. Volunteers have been busy planning, securing the permits, designed and printed the cute banner, clearing, trimming and raking. The stage was past it’s prime so it went away and is in the process of being all brand new. Food was ordered and it will be all ready for an enjoyable afternoon together on the Mountain.
One of our neighbors’ Chris Clarke will be singing and strumming great music with his band. You’ll be tapping your feet and maybe even what to get up and dance!
It’s a fund raiser for the Community Center so there is a $10.00 Entrance fee for adults, kids are free. (It’s a great time to be a kid!) Cash and checks accepted.

We woke up totally enveloped in clouds this morning but opened up a bit about 9am.
Neighbor, Jim Hamerly shared that he got 5.68″ of rain and clocked 31 mph wind with our total rainfall to 61.4 inches for the year. Apparently, the last time a hurricane touched down in San Diego County, it was 165 years ago they didn’t have any notice. We did, so many of us had sand bags ready and waiting by the time ours was down-graded to a Tropical Storm. However, because we had so much rain within just a few minutes, those bags were helpful.
Ann Sowards posted about a big tree down on property that borders Cabin Fever, owned by our son. I decided to cruise around and check on that tree, some up-coming listings and see how the neighborhoods faired. Driving up Fern Meadow I saw the rain really had some fun there with new ruts. With that little adventure, I decided not to venture off other dirt roads and let them dry out a bit.
A couple downed branches and trees were reported and cleared along the main roads. There are leaves, a few pine cones and some fruit that blew off trees. So, from what I could see, everything looked like a typical winter storm… but in August!
Coming down from Crestline and across State Park Road, you can see the flatlands were opening up and now it feels like the sun is trying to come out.
Those fall colors -on-the-way should be even more beautiful this year!
The past 23 years it has been so interesting to see the trends emerge in Real Estate. Things are quite a bit different on Palomar than our listings in the cities. Our fourth escrow in a row just closed with full time folks moving in. As long as great internet is available, the buyers are seeking the mountain life with clear sky, no constant traffic noise, trees, fresh air and the lifestyle we have here a mile nearer Heaven.
Great internet? That hasn’t always been the case. Fred with Western Broadband has done his very best to provide his line-of-site broadband as much as he can. Now, for the hard-to-service locations, Star Link has made it possible to stream, have Zoom meetups and has made a huge difference.
So, what is happening at this very moment? We have a huge shortage of listings!!! Some new ones are on the way but not quite ready. For those of you considering selling, there sure are a lot of buyers lined up!
Let’s connect!

Looking for an old-fashioned, fun time on Labor Day Weekend? Like to hear some great bluegrass by one of our Mountain Musicians? How about meeting some of your neighbors who love Palomar so much, they call it ‘home’?
This little mountain community has some very dedicated volunteers that have been working behind the scenes to orchestrate this event for all of us to enjoy:
Saturday, September 2nd 11 am to 2 pm, $10 per person, kids free!
Pull in on Summit Circle, just to the west (left) of the Fire Station in the National Forest Picnic Area.
Gary and Lynda Lockard are treating us to a beef and ham barbecue lunch with cole slaw, rolls and butter. There will also be pie and ice cream. Sorry it does not work for others to bring food potluck-style. Donations are welcomed.
Neighbor, Chris Clarke and his band Plow will be playing and singing on the Community Center stage. You are invited to sit ’round the stage (limited chairs so you might want to bring your favorite), enjoy your lunch, the music and maybe even get up and dance!
The event is a fund raiser for the Community Center. You’ll also have the opportunity to get in on the Raffle! Irresistible prizes and more on that soon!
Hope to see YOU there!
Big THANKS to all for making this happen!

For those of you who chose to be in your warm beds the past few nights at midnight, this is a peek of what you missed. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photos with us, Ernie!

The 2023 Persoid Meteor Shower is history, and as usual it was not as spectacular as media hype would suggest. At any rate, it was a soft, beautiful evening and I did get a few nice images from Palomar Mountain and Lake Henshaw.
Above are two (right side) meteors at the same time over Will Valley Pond.
Later, three at the same time (far left) over Lake Henshaw.
