Raffle Prizes Needed for the BBQ!

From: Danielle Doelman PMVFD BBQ Chairman

Every year on Labor Day Weekend the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department has an old-fashioned, fun day, with a barbecue, raffle, and craft and food booths, games and just a great time as a fund-raiser for the Fire Department.

Some prizes have already arrived for the BBQ Raffle!  A $500.00 gift card to a winery in Temecula, and 2 tickets to the Horn Blower, gift certificates for a weekend in a cabin, free snow plowing and more.  More donation letters are going out as lots more prizes are needed to get it up to about 100 prizes taken home that day!

What donations do YOU subscribers to the Mountain News have that you could head out way?  Let’s be creative and make it really fun this year!

All donations are tax deductible and much appreciated!

Just let me know.  Thank you so much!

New Generator for Palomar Phone Service

AT&T  has had crews working up here for a few weeks.  Our phone service on Palomar is a signal that is bounced off a location in Valley Center.  The recent work has been to install a new, larger generator.  When we have occasional power outages, we will be in even better shape with this new system.  Thank you AT&T!

(My little helper that day was Matt and Amanda Rau’s cute little boy, Jackson.   He thinks big cranes are pretty cool on Palomar!)

Deal to keep Palomar Park open ALMOST done!

NORTH COUNTY UNION TRIBUNE

Deal to keep Palomar park open almost done

PALOMAR MOUNTAIN

An agreement to keep Palomar Mountain State Park open for the next three years is just days away from being finalized, and the popular DoaneValleyCampground will reopen by mid-April, a park official said last week.

The campground was shuttered in October due to the state’s financial troubles, but Nedra Martinez, superintendent for Palomar and Cuyamaca Rancho state parks, said that extra seasonal funding was found that will allow the campground to reopen no later than April 13.

Reservations are not yet being accepted but should be soon.

The campground, a favorite of local campers for decades, is being cleaned up now, and park aides are being hired, Martinez said.

Meanwhile, anagreementbetween anonprofit groupand the state that will allow the park to stay open for the next three years is awaiting signatures before taking effect.

The park had been one of 70 in the state slated for permanent closure come July 1.
