Can you send an email to the Governor?

It just takes a minute!  I just clicked through to send my message to the Governor, please do the same and please forward this to your friends and family!

Here is the latest from Michael Walsh and the Friends of Palomar State Park:

Important news items about the park you love.

UPDATE: Undisclosed funds found within Department of Parks and Recreation. (DPR).

As promised, click here for an important update … and read some encouraging news!   Palomar Mountain State Park has a golden opportunity to get funding from DPR via Assembly Bill (AB) 1478, which was the direct result of the scandal in Sacramento. This bill is now sitting on the governor’s desk for signature.

Click here to send an email to Governor Brown voicing your support of AB 1478. Don’t delay — the governor will either sign the bill, veto it, or make amendments to it by the end of the month, and he could do so any day.

Thank you!

Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park

Boucher Lookout In Service Sept 1st!

This is a very exciting announcement!  After several decades of the Boucher Fire Lookout being boarded up and closed, it has been restored and will open Saturday morning, September 1st, 2012!  YOU are invited to tour during times when it is staffed.
If you are able to make it to the Fire Department BBQ, be sure to visit the Fire Lookout and State Park Lookout Booths to find out how you can tour the Lookout.
Curt Waite, a long-time friend, invited me to take a peek a few days ago and here is a little album for you.
Many thanks to Curt and (where are my notes!??) others who have invested many volunteer hours restoring High Point Lookout and now Boucher.  It was pretty exciting to be up in the tower admiring the view when all of a sudden we saw a puff of smoke out there in the San Marcos area.  The equipment wasn’t installed yet to call in the fire so Curt ran down the three stories of stairs to report from his car.  Lots of great action between touching up the paint and getting some vintage equipment up and running again.  Stay tuned for more info and hope YOU get to enjoy the view up there real soon.

Look at that rain!

What a beautiful view from Palomar today!  Just had to share! Looking out from Birch Hill, we got to watch it raining down off the East Grade.  It did make it to the top for a little while.  I had to check out the weather forecast for the weekend.  Sunny sky is promised for Saturday!  Woo Hoo!  But you might want to keep things unpluged the rest of the weekend with the lightening that is promised too.

Every year on the Friday Night before the PMVFD BBQ there is an Awards Dinner for the Firefighters.  This is some of the best eatin’ you’ll have this side of Carolina!  Earl Walls just finished the pork BBQ in his smoker, and has his very famous, mountain-made, Lexington Carolina Coleslaw sauce ready to serve up for ya’ll tomorrow.  Keith Ronchetti was there to help cut it up, and Louise and me?  Well, someone needs to sample, don’t you think? Ohmygoodness!  Sooooo delicious!

Tomorrow night is the Awards dinner and potluck!  Everyone is invited!

Friday, August 31, 6:00

Earl and Louise are providing the pork and coleslaw.  Please bring your favorite appetizer or a desert to share and your appetite!

Danielle Doelman, the BBQ chairman and Volunteer Firefighter, made a slide show of photos and video from this past year….”Life as a firefighter”.  It will be played during dinner.  They you will get to meet the Palomar firefighters as they are given their awards.
