Skunk Shampoo Recipe

There seem to be a lot of skunks roaming ’round the Mountain these days.  We had inspections out at Iron Spring Ranch today and the new buyers-to-be found a dead skunk out in the meadow.  I mentioned it to the seller and thought some of you might appreciate his recipe!

Bill replied with:  “Uli, my dog got skunked yesterday so maybe she is the skunk killer.  She’s a smart dog but has got skunked at least 30 times.  The recipe we use that works best is dish detergent mixed with baking soda.  You make it into a paste and leave in on for ten minutes.  Uli has gotten skunked so many times that she comes in the house and jumps right in the tub.”

Hope you don’t need to use this but just in case I am guessing some of you will have extra dish soap and baking soda on your next shopping list!

Need Snow Chains?

snow chains    Today I was asked where the best place is to get snow chains.  I remembered that one of you gave me a contact years ago, that I added to our Mountain Yellow Pages.  Well, I gave him a call and he is such an interesting guy to talk to on the phone.  He works out of his home so you must have an appointment.   If those 19 folks on Yelp are telling the truth, he is the go-to-guy for snow chains in this part of the world.

However, there is a catch!  He won’t sell you the chains unless you have a lesson with him on how to put them on with the least amount of stress so you can get back in your warm car real fast and make it to your destination with no slipping and sliding.  Such a deal!

And!  When I mentioned that we are on Palomar, Tomas replied, “My wife and I met on Palomar Mountain in 1995.  We were on a Sierra Singles hike where you go to meet, greet, hike and learn.  We were each with someone else but ended up with each other.  We love Palomar Mountain!”

So, give Tomas and Patti Weller a call and they will set you up with a great set of chains just in time for our next big snow!

Anxiously awaiting a new computer – again!  This will be my 4th since Thanksgiving.  Very special!  So that is why it is a little quiet these days on the Mountain News.  Thanks to all for your patience and if you have sent me something to turn around, please re-send or give me a call.  Just took snow pix of listings and some on the way!  They’ll be heading your way soon!

Meanwhile, my little Pathfinder is great in this snow and I’m glad to whisk you around for a tour!

Pig on the Loose!

Dpigid you see this pig skate boarding on Palomar this morning?   I was totally minding my own business, oh, I know, that doesn’t happen too often, when I recognized a couple of vehicles parked at the Summit.

Electrician Mark Jones, and Connie Betterton, were waiting for someone from SDG&E so they could get rolling on a project.  While we were visiting, this pig appeared out of the back of Mark’s truck!  Mark said a friend made it, and it has been taking up space in his garage for years.  He thought since he has this job, back in the woods on Palomar, it would be fun to use this pig for target practice!  Can you imagine?  Of course I offered to rescue this pig!  And, it just so happened that we were right under the “Unique Gifts” sign at the General Store!!!  Thanks Mark!

But now the question comes up:  What should we do with this skateboarding pig?  I am going to need some help with that!

unique giftMeanwhile,  when you need an electrician, Mark loves coming up 760 908-6745.  Many thanks to Connie, our photographer, she is now back to work with the ‘Tim and Connie Cedar Show’ on Crestline.  George Ravenscroft was picking up his mail and just had to stop.  He thinks this pig has huge potential.

What are YOUR ideas for this pig?
