Looking for great access when we are a winter wonderland for your year-round or weekend getaway!  The Palomar Loft just may have your name on it!

Beauty in the Woods has had some recent painting to brighten up the options for family and friends at that charming cabin, too!

Mountain folks invited to Senator’s Open House

***MEDIA RELEASE***

Senator Joel Anderson Invites Palomar Mountain Residents

to Holiday Legislative Open House

Senator Joel Anderson, who represents the Palomar Mountain community, will be holding his 7th annual Holiday Legislative Open House on Nov. 21 at 6:00 PM.  The purpose of the event is to give Senator Anderson and his staff an opportunity to meet with residents and listen to their ideas on how to improve the state of California.

“40 to 60 percent of the bills I have introduced in past legislative sessions came from residents who attended previous open houses.” said Anderson. “Palomar Mountain is a unique and vibrant community filled with active residents and it is important that I hear from them on the best ways to improve our state.”

Over 1,500 people attended last year’s open house. The ideas Senator Anderson received from the event resulted in three new bills that he introduced in the legislature:

SB 545: A children’s protections bill

SB 604: a bill to improve safety on intersections

SB 641: a tax relief bill for start-up businesses

The free event will not only give residents an opportunity to meet with neighbors, donated hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.

The event will be held at the Toyota of El Cajon at 965Arnele Ave. on Nov. 21st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  To learn more about the three bills and to RSVP to the free event, please call Senator Anderson’s office at 619-596-3136 or visit http://www.senate.ca.gov/anderson .

Like to be a part of an Honor Flight Homecoming?

Join in this Sunday, November 3rd at 2pm for the Honor Flight Homecoming for our WWII Veterans.

Simply show up at the San Diego Airport, Terminal 2, Baggage Claim area 1-3. Patriotic clothing, American flags, welcome home signs, a smile in your heart, and a cheering voice are all needed! You will absolutely LOVE this event! ALL are welcome!!!

Ron and Teri Simas have owned a cabin on Palomar Mountain for the past decade and absolutely love their piece of heaven in the sky!

Girl Scouts have also been very much a part of their lives.  Both leaders, they help to coordinate events with Spirit of ’45, Wreaths Across America, Memorial and Veterans Day events, and of course, Honor Flight.

Nazare’, their oldest daughter, is a Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient.  She is seen at the beginning of this video and is interviewed towards the end. Naz also appears in this video at the 22 second mark.

Their youngest daughter, Lizzy, has just earned her Girl Scout Silver Award and is pictured with her Service Dog, Mallery.  Lizzy appears at the beginning of this video honorably escorting one of the Vets.

Hope some folks from the Palomar Mountain News can join in this Homecoming.  Thanks to the Simas family for helping coordinate these long-over-due times of recognition for our Vets.

Mom’s Apple Cake

Mom's Apple Cake

This apple cake has been a favorite for many years. I couldn’t resist making it a few times recently and had several requests for the recipe.  Thought maybe some of you might enjoy it too.  Made with mountain apples picked today,  makes it extra special.  If all goes as planned, there will be some waiting for you to taste at the Apple Festival tomorrow.

Mom’s Apple Cake

Cream together:
1/2 cup oil
1 cup apple sauce
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 T. Vanilla
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
3 cups flour
Add:
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped walnuts
3 cups chopped apples
(Sometimes I add chopped dates, raisins, or mashed banana and an extra egg.)

Bake in a 9×13 pan at 375 for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours
(Extra yummy served with hot caramel topping).

Beautiful sunset tonight!
