Plumbing Poem for Cabins?

plea for our plumbing poem

Camping in the High Sierra’s, I came across this poem on the wall of an almost-out-house.  The plaque wasn’t for sale, so took the pic for you.  Sometimes the mountain septic systems have been a little taxed.  I’m thinking a version of this just may show up in some of the Vacation Rentals and cabins on our little mountain.  The rentals are non-smoking but have had issues with toys in the commode, (oh my!) so I took a little liberty:

Dear City Dwellers, whose lives entail

Plumbing Fixtures which seldom fail,

And sewer pipes which hold so much

You can grind your garbage and other such.

To you, who do not know the gripes

Of Septic Tanks and half inch pipes;

Lend your ears to one who knows

Your Mountain Cousin’s plumbing woes.

Our toilet business may look like you’n

But many things they just ain’t endurin’

Like “wet strength” towels and Kleenex, too

Bleach and other modern products, they do eschew.

Children’s toys create a rumble.

E’en too much tissue makes ’em grumble.

So City Dweller, don’t offend.

Treat Mountain Plumbing like a friend.

Like to test drive the Tesla Electric Car?

From: David Drake davirake2 at gmail dot com

Test drive of Tesla S

Date changed for Test Drive:

Tesla test drive in UTC from October 1, at 11:00 P.M. to October 13 at 3:00 P.M.? Thank you.

Did you know, the roof is so strong that it can support 3 Tesla Model S on top, and a Tesla S owner recently crashed into a concrete wall at 110 MPH and walked away unscathed!!

Can have three guests. Anyone wanting to go along should call David Drake at 760-638-9580.

Also I am trying to get Tesla to bring their new “Gull wing doors” Model X Two motor all wheel drive crossovers up here.

Be Prepared Tips from Marie Waldron

The summer is over and the fall fire season is rapidly approaching. We all had a taste of what can happen last May when a series of wildfires struck throughout San Diego County. Fires, earthquakes, floods and landslides, all occur with regularity in Southern California; it is only a matter of time until the next natural disaster strikes.

Consequently, we should prepare for disasters and emergency situations of all types. Creating a family disaster plan, including where to meet, how to keep in touch, how to secure your home and what to do with pets and livestock must be planned in advance. Once an emergency hits, it’s too late.

More information about disaster preparedness is available at:

California Emergency Management Services: www.calema.ca.gov

While governments at all levels prepare for everyday emergencies, major disasters can overwhelm emergency services. For these reasons, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program has been established to assist first responders and to provide training and emergency assistance in areas impacted by natural or man-made disasters. To learn more about Palomar Mountain CERT and CERT programs throughout the county, please visit:

Palomar Mountain CERT: http://www.palomar-fire.org/cert.php

San Diego County: www.sandiegocounty.gov/oes/community/oes_jl_CERT.html

The recent fires in this region have served as a wake-up call.  Now is the time to plan and prepare. The safety of our loved ones may depend on actions we take today.

Palomar Observatory at Children’s Hospital

Palomar Mountain Obervatory at Children's Hospital  Hopefully, you’ll never see this beautiful rendition of the Palomar Observatory up close.  But, if you must, you’ll be very pleased with the wonderful care given your child or grandchild.  Today I got to be with our oldest ‘Treasure’ who is feeling much better after an asthma attack, pneumonia, and couple days at Children’s Hospital.  I’d noticed that her room had such well done art, covering a wall.  It depicted the planet Saturn with the rings, so we talked about the solar system a bit, between snuggles.  When I slipped out tonight, this caught my eye on the fourth floor. I had to stop and take this to share with you.  About 5 x 5 feet, it really is lovely.

Enjoy your last few days of Summer!

32 degrees cooler on Palomar!

kajsa peffer  It was 74 degrees yesterday when my husband, Don, left the mountain a little before noon.  An hour later he was in Escondido and his gauge showed 106!  Sure makes us appreciate being on the mountain these days!  It’s often 20 degrees cooler, but 32!?!??  Interesting weather these days!

Thanks to Kajsa Peffer, for sharing her beautiful photo of the sky above the Observatory, taken last Saturday.
