Happy Fourth from Palomar Mountain!

Happy Fourth of July Palomar Mountain

It has been nice to be out ’round the mountain today, seeing extra cars in driveways of family and friends celebrating the birth of our nation.

Recently this music video came my way.  I see it was aired the year I graduated from high school.  That was a very long time ago, but from our house to yours, the message is the same.

We’re celebrating the freedoms we still enjoy in this country and may God Bless America!

Two and a half tenths of rain in June!

Yes, every little drop of rain counts!

Fred Brown sent us his rain totals for the year a couple weeks ago. We so rarely get rain in June, but that thunderstorm hit yesterday afternoon adding 2 1/2 tenths of an inch of rain in our gauge, to Fred’s total for the year.  Everything smells so fresh this morning.  Love summer rains!

The weather service is hinting at the possibility of thunderstorms today and tonight.  We have a lot of our things unplugged over here as it is always a good idea.  Several folks have lost their computers, TVs, appliances and more during these spectacles in the sky.  Scroll down at this link to read more about being prepared during thunderstorms.

Can you help Brooke?

Brooke Bickler Vintage Trailers  Brooke Bickler vintage trailer remodel  brooke bickler college fund project

At 19 years old, Brooke is a very ‘Happy Camper’ like it says on her tee shirt!  She just finished her first total remodel of a vintage travel trailer, named “Miss Penny” and has a lot to be proud of! She had so much fun doing this and would love to do more.  Her plan is to fix and sell these trailers to put herself through college.

Do you have an old trailer tucked away that has become not much more than a mouse house?  She would sure appreciate the donation to her college fund.  Dad and mom, Dave and Edie Bickler, have helped too, and are glad help Brooke air up or replace the tires and tow it off your property for their daughter’s next college project.

I had a heads-up call when they were on their way with this little gem, and was waiting with my camera when they pulled up to the Summit.  Three cheers for Brooke!  I’ve been watching her progress on Facebook and it was so fun to see the finished product.  So cute!!!

She polished all the pennies, glued them down, then covered the counter top with resin.  Made the buttons for the tie-backs with pennies, too. She completely gutted the dilapidated 1969 Shasta. Then did all the wiring, plumbing, painting, fitting the wall board and installed new cabinets. She made the clock, pillows, and table, restored the old Coleman ice chest – it’s just as cute as can be.

The family is up for a few days and if you have a trailer that you’d like to donate to her cause, they would love to pick it up! Please leave a message for Brooke at 951  3O6-2176.  You are also welcome to comment below and I’ll get word to them on the mountain – or give me a call.   Bonnie 76O 742 one 742.

Real Estate Update

Monday we returned to Palomar from 12 days vacationing in Arizona.  We beat the heat for our trip but stopped for a late lunch in Borrego Springs where it was 112 degrees! An hour later we clicked our heals together 3 times, as we pulled in our driveway with 79 degrees on beautiful Palomar Mountain. Gotta love this mountain!

Fixer home for sale escondido CA 704 Jonathon place

Mountain friends asked me to list their folks home in Escondido.  Five offers came in real quick and more promised tomorrow. We plan to open escrow Friday so there is still time if you’d like to pop in and see it.  The home has some great bones with a big brick fireplace in the nice family room with an open beam ceiling.  It promises to be a fun ‘fix and flip’ transformation.  One of the buyers is from TV’s ‘Flip this House’.  We might have some after pix soon!

Both homes and more are on our Homes page.  Click around and there are Cabins, Land, and that beautiful Ranch waiting for you, too.

Come on up for a cool summer tour of beautiful Palomar Mountain!

Rain Totals for the Year?

Palomar rainfall varies so much.  Thanks to Fred for sending his totals out here at the State Park entrance.  Anyone else have totals to share?  Please comment.  Thanks!  We’ll take all the rain we can get up here!

From: Fred Brown

My rainfall total for the season on State Park Road, since July first is 28.5 inches, about 10 inches below average.  Season does not end until June 30 but we almost never get rain in June.   Fred Brown

What area on Palomar was called “The Saddle”?

Barb Waite is finishing up her second book of her grandmother’s journal, Elsie.  This one will be her Mountain Years on Palomar, with plans to have it available to pre-order in October.

About 100 years ago, Elsie wrote:

“An Indian, Peter Grand, came back bringing teams and wagon last night. He and Jack each took two loads of apples to the saddle today, first time by sleds, then wagon.”

Barb is wondering if anyone knows the area on Palomar that was referred to in the good old days as “THE SADDLE”.

Please comment and maybe your input will be added to the next book!  Much appreciated!
