Great Wall of Flame

wall of flame

Would you like to get a LOT more heat from your fireplace?  We were so impressed when visiting friends recently, sitting in front of their new vertical grate.

It is so much warmer with more of the flame and coals facing the room and the logs ‘self-feed’ into the fire.  So much more heat from the same amount of wood.  Click for the link.  Thinking we’ll be seeing some of these ’round the mountain!

This company also includes a video on how to build a fire.  However, there is a much easier way.  We use the Seymore Fire Blox you can get at The General Store.  No kindling, no paper.

With nice dry firewood (we prefer seasoned oak), use one fire starter, one match and you are all set for a warm fire…. and maybe s’mores!

Mountain Lion at Frank’s

lion-web

From: Frank McCarthy

Here is a picture of that lion that came by in May. Good chance it was the same one mentioned in a recent post, she was a female. I haven’t seen any since but they tend to rotate through every 6-12 months. I actually had a coyote sneak up on me last week when I was coming back from Will Valley. It didn’t see me until I rounded a bush but it was clear how fast if was coming that it thought I was a meal.

FSC logo

From: Cecelia Borland, PMFSC Secretary

The Palomar Mountain Fire Safe Council is rebuilding and looking for people who are interested in serving on the board. We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation and currently have 2 places to fill on the board.

The purpose of the PMFSC is to:

  1. Identify areas of the mountain where lives, structures, and/or resources are at significant risk due to high fuel loads.
  2. Write grants for funding to accomplish the work necessary to reduce the fuel load in those areas.
  3. Prioritize, manage and oversee fuel reduction/fire safety  projects.
  4. Educate the mountain community about fire safe practices and opportunities

We work closely with fire agencies, Resource Conservation District, BLM, Federal Forestry, California State Parks, and other Fire Safe Councils in the county.

Interested in serving on the FSC board?

Please contact Cecelia Borland cecelia10@idafab.com

Thank you!
