Christmas Surprise

We’ve been ‘staging’ for family and friends heading our way to fill up all our extra beds over the next couple days.

Look what I found packed away!  It might have been my folks and it appears to be about the same era they would have come to Palomar for the first time.  Looking at the clothing styles, it’s an antique!  I’m guessing it is about the time I was born (many, many years ago!).

Double click on the photo to enlarge.  I took the pic through the view-finder with my iPad.  Surprised it came out so clear.

There isn’t time to write a letter

But maybe this is even better!

Look inside and you will see

A place that’s mighty nice to be.

Merry Christmas from Palomar Mountain!

Need Brush Chipped? It’s FREE!

From: PMVFD Fire Board –  If You Cut it, the PMVFD Will Chip it

You’ve gone out and cleared brush on your property to create defensible space around your house and now you have a pile of dead vegetation you want to turn into mulch. Who you gonna call? The Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (PMVFD), that’s who. If you cut it, they’ll chip it. The state of California has granted the PMVFD funds to help reduce the wildfire threat by chipping cleared vegetation on the mountain. What will this service cost you? The PMVFD will do it for free. Go after those Moles!

mole cropped

Go after moles??

You might be thinking of the moles that have been very happy down in our orchards or around gardens.  Yes, but there are others that can be very pesky and get out of control.

There was a little mole hanging out on my leg all my life.  About 8 years ago it became more interesting.  Someone suggested I try ‘Black Salve’.  (Don’t do that!!!)  All of a sudden the mole reappeared last spring, so I used it again. (Noooo!!!) Then a couple months ago that pesky mole popped up again!  I was seeing all these other doctors about my froggy voice but I knew I should finally add in a dermatologist.  He had a fit.

He did a biopsy then scheduled a ‘procedure’ to go after that mole, but called me a few days later.  Because it was so close to my knee and could open back up easily, he recommended a plastic surgeon.

21 stitches later, I was told to “keep my leg elevated, no stairs and walk only a few minutes a day – for TWO WEEKS!”

The dermatologist’s wife happens to be a speech therapist. So, he had something to say about my froggy voice, too;  “Stop talking!”.

Stop talking and stop walking… hummmmm.  You know, it has worked real well!  My voice is almost back (much to Don’s dismay) and the first week is behind me for this elevated leg and all is well.

I am really blessed.  Many others are dealing with so much more.  Well, I decided to use this Mountain News to perhaps nudge some of you subscribers to check on those moles!  No matter how cute they are, no matter what they tell you, go after those moles!

PS Like a great dermatologist?  Dr. Francis Barber and my plastic surgeon in Escondido, Dr. Kadesky is wonderful, too.

Did you see the Weather Report?

100 snow

Sunny and clear up here – didn’t even wear a jacket to lunch at Mother’s. But, ohmygoodness!  100% chance of SNOW tonight???   Just thought some of you might like to see my favorite logo on the weather report!

We’ll believe it when we see it. But, meanwhile, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas!

28 Degrees at Couple Berry Farms

butch

28 degrees in Vista and on Palomar!

Driving up the mountain last night, Don made the comment that it was 28 degrees when we left yesterday morning at 10:30 and 28 when we got back up at 5:30.

Butch and Denise Johnson sold their home on Palomar a few years ago.  They decided to move back to their roots, at their family farm where Butch was raised.  When Butch went out to tend the crops this morning, he saw that it was the same temperature in Vista as I mentioned in a Facebook post last night. So, he sent me this photo.

Why did Burch and Denise move back to Vista?  Well, the grandkids live there on the farm, too!  When one of them reached up for Grandpa’s hand and said, “let’s take the tractor out an pick a couple berries, Grandpa”.   That did it.  They knew what to name the farm stand and knew they needed to be there for picking times with those grandkids.

Like some great organic produce grown with love?  It is worth it to go out of your way to Couple Berry Farms.

Click for a peek of their heart they’ve opened to all, where you can still get kisses for 5 cents.

What’s coming!?!

Those of us on the Mountain enjoyed another beautiful sunset tonight, looking out over a blanket of clouds.  The weatherman is promising rain, a tease of snow and wind over the weekend. Some of us are working hard to be patient for more of that white stuff, anxious to get out those sleds.

After this recent warmer weather, the windows are now all closed at my listings so we are ready for this welcomed storm.  Three appointments scheduled over the next few days and can fit in a couple more so, come on up!  Click to see what is available.  Plus a big, beautiful log home waiting in the wings!

Meanwhile there is a wonderful stew simmering (that Cowboy can cook)! Our son, Nathan, is on his way, and life is good – very good!  My voice is almost back to normal!  So much to be thankful for.

Hoping you are doing well and enjoy this storm!
