It is warming up again but I am quite convinced the Palomar just might be the best place to be the next few days.  So nice to live where it cools down at night.  And, I’ll take our temps over the city promises any day!

This is a link to an interactive map where you can see active emergencies in the county.  It is also currently showing cool zones if anyone needs a place to beat the heat.

Please note that fire, evacuation, and other hazard boundaries are approximate and can change rapidly.  This map is based on official mapping sources that show rough footprints of active emergencies and emergency notification areas from responding agencies that may take several hours to produce.  Zooming into specific locations may produce misleading information. We met today for a tour around the mountain to see properties that are defensible and many that aren’t.  Come learn how to groom your property to survive a fire.

One of these new vehicles will be coming to Palomar.

You may see extra cyclists along the base of the mountain over the next few days. They are heading out on their 3000 mile Race Across America!  Let’s cheer them off and wish them well!

Race Across America, Tuesday – June 14 and Saturday – June 18

http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/live-tr…  Two separate start dates for individuals and teams.  It does not look like they will be coming up to Palomar but they will be along SR-76.

Yes, you read that right.  A moving van came up the Nate Harrison Grade today.  They were just following their GPS.  For two guys who had never been to Palomar before, they had quite an introduction.

Plus, the Nate was socked in a cloud.  They said they could barely see to the back of the van.  They counted 10 turns where they had to get out, watch out, and carefully back up a couple times to make it around.  They said they could see far enough to realize they were on the edge of a sheer drop in several places and commented that if they had gone over the side, they were quite sure they would never be found.

Those two guys were the happiest guys on the planet when they broke through the clouds and saw our beautiful, blue sky!

So, here is a tip:  When you have delivery guys, a moving van, or your mom, heading this way for the first time:  You might suggest they stick to your very clear directions including “If your GPS includes the Nate Harrison Grade click for an alternate route up the South Grade S-6.  The East Grade can take a little longer, but best for the big rigs.

When you need a mover, these guys were hard working and very pleasant and they now know the best way to the Mountain!
