Yes, Agatha Christy’s murder mystery comes to life, well, for a short while, with five of our Palomar Mountain thespians.  We saw it last night and even though I am more of a Sound of Music gal, this was a GREAT show.  The audience was in suspense and laughing at the end – you just need to be there!

Easier than ever with four free tickets – while they last! Heidi Phelps can have them for you at the door tonight at 7 or Sunday at 2 but soon there will be none…

One of our properties in escrow is going to a man by the name of George Wolfe.  He is a retired pastor from Calvary Chapel churches.  He is bringing family and friends up for the festival and offered to have a service tomorrow morning on our patio. Weekenders, Crescent and Tonja Jakubs and their family will have a couple guitars to provide music.  You are all invited!  9 am.  BYO chair and a jacket – it’s a little chilly out there!

Knowing George gets up very early in Meniffee and usually drives to his daughter’s for breakfast, I offered to have breakfast here, too.  If you’d like to join us, I have a couple breakfast dishes coming out of the oven at 8 am. Egg casseroles, biscuits and gravy, apple muffins, fruit… That cowboy got off his horse long enough today to squeeze some big jugs of fresh OJ, now he is slicing mountain apples. Woo Hoo!   We’ll have coffee, tea and paper goods.   Since we don’t know how many to plan for, let’s potluck breakfast so bring something to share along with your chair!  Food for the body and the soul!

Kitchens ’round the mountain are sure smelling good these days with all the apple treats being made.

Part of the fun of the festival each year is baking up some great apple goodies to share.  Ranger Jessica is famous for her pies.  One year there was a big kettle of an apple chicken soup.  Lots different ideas made with apples.  So many great treats to choose from.  Just saw a recipe for an apple crisp to put in our crock pot… oh, and there is that favorite apple cake drizzled with just a bit of caramel…

Have fun with your recipes for the festival!

Bring a small water bottle and get a free fill-up of mountain grown apple cider!

Another great reason to load up your family and friends and come on out to the Festival Sunday.

The seventh annual Apple Festival is Sunday!  Palomar Author, Barbara Anne Waite’s grandfather planted many apple trees over 100 years ago.  Barb published her grandmother’s journal in two books.  They will be available Annual Palomar Mountain State Park Apple Festival:

Sunday, Oct. 15th 11 A.M. – 3 P.M. Free event!

Barb is off at a family reunion but her husband Curt will be there selling “Elsie’s Mountain” and “Elsie-Arizona Teacher 1913-1916” memoir book. Special Apple Festival price 2 books $25.00. They will donate $2.00 from each sale to Palomar Mountain State Park. Yes, some of the cider will be made from “Elsie apples”- planted by Barb’s great-grandfather in 1904, and still producing apples.

Apple Festival Beard Contest!

We have a new neighbor looking forward to closing his escrow today.  He lives in Tustin.  Yesterday he had his car packed up with new things to furnish his cabin.  Then he was notified that there was to be an evacuation because of the fire raging close by.  He unpacked his car and packed up important papers, change of clothes, eye glasses, prescriptions and his parrot, Lulu.

When I talked to him and see the news, it made me think of our last evacuation on Palomar.  Many of the folks impacted by these recent fires, didn’t have much time to take anything at all. Here is a post from 2014 with tips that could be helpful to be prepared:  Do you have your ‘Stuff’ photographed?
