Throughout the years, I’ve shared about Catherine Wood, the author of our first delightful book of Palomar History. Her Grand-Niece, Rebecca Macdonald sent this photo of her obituary in 1973. She has her book, as well as some of her handwritten notes and reference books. Rebecca was so pleased to find the post of Catherine’s book included in a mural in Escondido.
I’ve connected Rebecca with Peter B, our Mountain Historian. Hoping to have some more interesting posts headed our way.

Hi Bonnie, Hope all is well with you. Your message about Catharine Woods book made me go get mine out. My Mom bought it at the old Rincon restaurant at the foot of the mountain, maybe in 1948 or ‘49. Maybe 1950? It is a signed copy and Mom loved it. We all learned so much about the mountain. By the way, the price is lightly written on the inside of the cover: $2.25. Can you believe???
Best to you, Alicelynn Cockrill

So good to hear from you Alicelynn! I just looked it up and $2.25 in 1950 would be over $30.00 in 2025. My goodness, that was a lot way back then… Wonderful fun stories! Love to see you again!
